Fortnite Crashes Instantly on Xbox Series X – Issue Since Dec 2024

Hi Xbox Community,

Since December 2024, Fortnite crashes on startup on my Xbox Series X. The music plays for a few seconds and then I get kicked to the dashboard before I can even press A.

I’ve tried:

Reinstalling Fortnite

Soft/factory resetting the console

Changing DNS/MAC settings

Logging in with a fresh profile

Cloud gaming (where Fortnite works fine)

Linking only one Epic account

Reporting the problem through the Xbox “Report a Problem” app

Ongoing discussions with both Xbox and Epic support

Epic has confirmed this is a known issue affecting Xbox Series X|S, and that all possible steps have already been exhausted on their end. They’ve said it’s under investigation.

This is the only game with issues — all others work perfectly.

➡️ Is there anything more that can be done from Xbox’s side? Is this issue being looked into internally?

Since you've already tried several methods to fix the problem, the problem isn't with your Xbox, it's a problem with the game itself.

In this case, I recommend you wait for a new update for the game to be released so this problem can be fixed.

I have the same issue. Since Fortnite Season two release the Xbox Series X fan is loud. Not in other games. It seems to be a Fortnite issue. I hope this will not damage my console??

Having the same problem now since the update last night

Reinstalled Fortnite on my Series X for the “OG” update. Game crashes to dashboard all the time.

Some instances whilst loading the game, other crashes whilst in the menus and within the first few minutes of a match. Unplayable.

Any fixes?

All sorted, it's a simple process.

Turned on the new xbox series X and logged in via the Xbox phone app.

System then already new my account details.

1st screen on new Xbox was to click and accept 24months of game pass ultimate.

Now I check my Xbox account under subscriptions it says my next game pass payment will be in Dec 2024 so 24 months from now.

I also experience frequent crashes in destiny 2 since light falls release on my Xbox series x. The only other game that constantly crashes is starfield. No other game crashes, example: dead by daylight, Diablo 4 or cyberpunk. Seems to be a hardware issue that Microsoft refuses to officially acknowledge.
