How do I switch ownership of/access to Minecraft from my account to my son's?

Lisa-Claire, I totally get where you're coming from — it’s really common to accidentally buy a game while signed into the wrong account, especially when using a shared device like your child’s PC. Unfortunately, Minecraft licenses can’t be transferred between Microsoft accounts once the purchase is completed.

That said, you still have a couple of options:

Option 1: Keep the game on your account, but let your son play it

If your son plays Minecraft on your Microsoft account, he can still access the game, even on his PC.

To do this:

Log in to the Minecraft Launcher with your Microsoft account (the one the game is tied to)

He can play under that account, but it will show your gamertag, not his

This works fine if you're okay with sharing the account just for the game

Option 2: Request a refund and re-purchase under his account

If the game was purchased within the last 14 days and played under 2 hours, you can request a refund and then repurchase it using your son’s account.

Here’s how:

Go to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders

Sign in with your Microsoft account (the one that made the purchase)

Find the Minecraft purchase and click “Request a refund”

Once approved, log out and sign in with your son’s Microsoft account to buy the game again

Refund eligibility rules:

Must be within 14 days of purchase

Should have less than 2 hours of playtime

Since the purchase was made just yesterday and there’s been less than 2 hours of playtime, it meets Microsoft’s refund criteria. If the “Request a refund” button doesn’t show directly under the order in your account, you can still manually request one using their refund form.

Here’s how to do that:

Manually request a refund

Go to the refund request form:

Click “Request a refund” and sign in with the Microsoft account that made the purchase

Fill in the form with the following details:

Item: Minecraft (or the exact name listed in your order history)

Order number: You’ll find this at https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders

Purchase date: When the game was bought

Reason for refund: Explain briefly that the game was bought accidentally on the wrong account, and you'd like to purchase it again under your child’s account

Once submitted, Microsoft usually replies within 24 to 72 hours. Update me if this works or not for you.

It was purchased yesterday and he has played for less than 2 hours, but when I follow that link to the purchase, there is no option for '"request a refund":





Would be very grateful for any suggestions as to how I go about requesting a refund, in these circumstances.

Hi, I have a similar problem - my son has a child account (family member) but can't access MineCraft. I have to sign in, switch back to his account and then he can access it.

After getting a new Pc i no longer can log in to my minecraft account. I used my microsoft account with my sons minecraft account.

Now i no longer have acces to my old email and cant log in on my minecraft account. On my old Pc we could switch between the different accounts.

I bought my minecraft back in march 2011 and have literally placed and mined millions of blocks on my favorite MC server, Buying a new account is therefore not something i can do as this will not be associated with all my placements and removals in the server database. My sons account is from november 2014 and both hve been migrated from mojang accounts.

So: I need my minecraft account to be linked to my microsoft account, and my sons to be linked to at new microsoft account we made for him.

I tried for hours now to navigate the support section of Microsoft/Xbox/Mojang but it is a maze and i keep ending up on the same pages with info i cant use.

Please, anyone.... how do i do this?
