Access Pin being Bypassed on updates!!

I appreciate the work you're doing for those kids — that’s awesome. And I can see why this situation would be frustrating. Based on what you’ve described, it definitely sounds like a bug with how content restrictions behave while updates are running.

If additional games or apps can be added to the queue without asking for the access PIN, even just during updates, that’s not how it should work. And the fact that restrictions kick back in once the queue clears really confirms that something isn’t functioning right behind the scenes.

Here’s what you can do:

Report it directly from the Xbox console:

Press and hold the Xbox button

Go to Profile & system > Feedback

Select Report a problem

Describe what you experienced, and mention that it affects Xboxes in a hospital children’s ward — that might help get it looked at more seriously

If you're part of Xbox Insider Hub:

You can also report it through there, under “Report a problem.” That goes straight to the teams working on system behavior.

Quick workaround in the meantime:

If possible, go to Settings > System > Updates and toggle off “Keep my games & apps up to date.” That’ll stop auto-updates for now, which could prevent this loophole from triggering when you're not around.

Update: The second that the updates had finished and the queue was empty, attempting to download a game asked for the access Pin.

This confirms for me that there is a bug in the way that the access restrictions have been coded. Can this be patched?

Thank you for your reply. Much of this is taken care of. He doesn’t know the pin. I performed a test on the specific game and was able to purchase without a pin.

You mentioned that you can make a purchase via browser and that seems to be what happened. The game is Grid. He cloud streamed it and then bought some DLC. When you go to make a purchase it brings up the browser. I’m unsure how common this is but in my very small sample size of testing it was the only one.

Would you happen to know if I made him his own profile could I restrict purchases so that these browser purchases can’t happen?

A child account has to link to an adult account. If I Recall Correctly, you make the account together, once he puts his age, it will ask for a parent account. If you need any help you know where to ask.
