A while back you responded on how to add a different email to an existing xbox account as an alias. I opened an xbox account for my son when he was a child but I need to put his email as an alias on my microsoft account so that he can have access to the xbox on his own. I followed your directions up to step 4 where I add his email as an alias but it will not let me because it states "This email address is already taken. Please try another" I tried to use an email my son currently uses. Is there any way to fix this?

Your Microsoft account IS the Xbox account and vice versa. They are essentially the same thing and intrinsically linked.

You cant put his own Microsoft email as an alias for your Microsoft account since it already exists as the primary alias of the Microsoft account it was created with and removing it as a primary alias from that account would permanently delete it and you wouldn't be able to recreate it again after that.

That, and even if it did work, yes he'd be able to sign in with his own email, however the Xbox account would still permanently tied to your Microsoft account meaning he'd still be signing in using your own password and whenever you'd change said password he wouldn't be able to login again without the new one.

Long story short there is no way to separate the Xbox account from your Microsoft account since again, they're the same thing.

Firstly I can confirm that it is a Microsoft Account. The issue is that the account was created using my ex-husband's Microsoft account, which I can not access.

I can not legally login into his account and so I want to move all of my son's game profiles off my ex-husband's account to merge onto a new profile. The only way to do this is to be able to access the existing account, which I don't have access to.

Since my son plays the Xbox and not my ex-husband, my ex-husband left the Xbox with his son when we separated.

How can I verify that the game accounts on the Xbox belong to my son when they are registered on my husband's Microsoft account. I can't provide order history as I can't access the account to provide it.

Hi, i have tried what you suggested- but its not working.

Can i start from beginning, my you will spot a problem.

a) My sons microsoft account is registered like child 14 years old.

b) My xbox is home xbox, and my son is part of family group.

c) My sons account has same region and location as mine.

d)my sons xbox account is unrestricted for all contents.

e) previously my sons account doesn’t have subscriptions, but now i bought separately for his account and anyway hi cant play my games.

e) I can’t check this (Check if your son's account has the appropriate permissions to access the games that you own. You can do this by going to Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members > Select your son's account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox Live privacy > View details & customize > Buy & download. Make sure that he can play games and apps that you own, and that he can join multiplayer games.)

When I select my sons account it’s saying - Privacy & content restrictions

You can't change Alex's settings.

f) When my son switches xbox he log out from my account,

and log in to his account.

When he whant to play fifa 24 for example-

it’s saying-the game already playing on xbox x ( home xbox, my account).

you should log in account who bought that game.

That's how I understand it. My son leaves for college. So we are going to make the console at Home be under his Xbox Live Gold account and the one at school be under my account. When we purchase games at home he will have access to the games when he signs
into his account at school.

When I bought my minor son his first Xbox, I added the Xbox to my account and had my son sign in there to use it. He is now an adult and I want him to set up his own Microsoft account and move his Xbox to his own account. How do we do this??.

You can easily havr him create his own account and log into his xbox.

He will lose access to his saved games and anything linked to your account. They cannot be transferred to another Microsoft account, nor can his gamertag.

He would essentially be starting fresh on his account.
