1. Check if the Console Responds at All

Tap the Xbox button on the console itself. Does it respond or turn on?

Try using a different controller if you have access to one, just to rule out a console-side issue.

2. Repair the Controller

Hold the pairing button on the console until the Xbox light blinks.

Then hold the pairing button on your controller until it starts flashing too.

Wait a few seconds to see if they sync.

3. Try Wired Mode Properly

Plug the controller into the console using a known-good USB cable.

Wait at least 10 seconds, you should see the Xbox light become steady.

If it doesn’t respond even when wired, it could point to a hardware fault in either the controller or console USB port.

4. Use the Xbox App as a Temporary Fix

The Xbox mobile app has a virtual controller. You can use it to navigate to Settings and re-pair or update your controller if needed.

5. Update Controller Firmware (if you can connect)

I've found a resolution for my problem. If I plug my controller into my USB switch the controller doesn't disconnect, even though the other inputs do disconnect randomly! When I swap the inputs to my PC everything works perfectly and the Xbox controller continues to work on the Xbox (weirdly).

Have you tried wiring the controller to a laptop? The light will show but it wont give any input to the console.

New consoles are all about new everything: New UI, new controller, new console. Even though the Xbox One controller is perfect, it'll be exciting to have a new one

UPDATE:

The controller does occasionally work, but when it does, it stops giving inputs after a few minutes before disappearing from the USB game controllers settings, even though it was still on and connected.
