How to Request a Refund for a Gifted Game?!

Hello, I am Worried Aunt, posting from my niece's outlook account.

The niece in question asked to get a "free game" and I approved, but I didn't check!

As it turned out, not only did she gift a game to her sister, she also bought the game for herself under the assumption that she still has Gamepass (which she does, but it expires soon!) So, I franctically moved to cancel / get both games refunded, and while the individual game DID get refunded (possibly for being caught up as a dupe in a way??), I am at a lost of how to get the gifted game refunded.

My niece who received the game did NOT redeem the code and yet when I look on the other niece's account, I see the code, but there does not appear to be a way to refund the gifted game and I am sitting at a negative balance because of this entire debacle which will not clear until a few days from now in which I will also be slammed with a fee from my bank for said negative balance once it reaches that point in time.

I would LOVE some help right about now.

As long as he code hasn't been redeemed, it should give you an option to refund it on the transaction itself at http://account.microsoft.com

As far as I know there's no wait time for when you can refund it. If it doesn't give you the option on the billing site and you can't do it through the request form, you'll need to contact support and speak to billing. http://support.xbox.com/contact-us

The options I see at the moment are to view the code, print the receipt, show billing details, and request help (which doesn't allow me the option to refund), but this did just happen a few hours ago.

For the gifted game, could this simply be that more time is needed - like a full day or so - before I can actually try to have this refunded?

You can request a refund by signing in to https://xbox.com/refunds.

I would recommend waiting for the email from the refund team before re-purchasing the game as a gift. When purchasing the game as a gift you will see the "Buy as a gift" option.

You can definitely request a refund however, in-game currencies can't be purchased as a gift. You can purchase an Xbox Gift card and send it to them so they can purchase it directly on their account.
