Xbox 360 Won’t Download Update

Hi,

So I have an original Xbox 360 Fat model with HDD and recently run into an update loop I can’t get out of.

It worked fine for a long time and I was able to retrieve all my old Arcade games via the download history - perfect! I decided I wanted to transfer everything to a bigger HDD (external) and that’s when everything went wrong.

After starting this process I found I was no longer able to download from my history - I could see it but when trying to download it would try and load then say if failed to connect to the store. I haven’t had luck again with this since.

I thought there may be some corruption so tried deleting my profile and redownloading which I struggled to do as it would no longer connect to Xbox Live. I did a roll back and then hoped to update but it got stuck trying to download the update.

Long story short, I have now:

Deleted everything on the HDD,

Formatted the HDD,

Updated (successfully) from USB (several times)

But now, I am stuck. Despite the update, it still says it needs to download an update from Xbox Live and will not connect. This happens both on wireless and Ethernet. I feel I have exhausted all options and need support.

Most recent error message states

“A system update is required to sign into Xbox live, but the update is currently unavailable”

A previous error code I was getting before is also below.

please try these steps.

1 Downgrade the update:

If you have access to a previous version of the system software (for example, via an installation CD or a downloaded update file), try installing it. This may help resolve the issue if the current update is corrupted.

2. Reinstall the latest update:

If possible, download the latest Xbox 360 system software update (which is version 2.0.17559.0) and try installing it again. You can do this using an installation CD, a USB flash drive, or Xbox Live itself.

3. Reset the console:

As a last resort, you can try resetting the console to factory settings, which will erase all data on the console

An Xbox 360 update loop can be caused by a variety of factors, including data corruption, software issues, or hardware issues. To resolve this, first try downgrading the update to an older version. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the latest update or formatting your console's hard drive.
