My child’s gmail (he got the email address before everything else) has me as family organizer. When signing in to Microsoft on his new laptop I show up in Family Safety as organizer, he doesn’t show up in my Family settings anywhere. He isn’t allowed to leave the family group, I can’t remove him since I don’t see him (I was trying to add him from my account sending him a new invite, he receives the invite, but can’t join since he is supposedly a member of that group with myself that shows on his laptop). Both our email addresses show correctly, I checked, it’s not a “Microsoft account with a different email”. All this is for letting him play Minecraft. Microsoft Family Safety feature = nightmare.

My child sees me in family group, I do not see him

    Hi Larysa,

My name is Aileen, and I’m an Xbox Expert and a user. I know how frustrating it is to deal with Microsoft Family Safety when it feels like things aren't syncing correctly. Just a heads-up, this is a public forum, and I can’t access or make changes to any accounts. I'm just here to help with the best info available.

Based on what you described, it sounds like there's a desync issue between your Microsoft Family group and how it's displaying across devices. This can sometimes happen when the child account was initially created or connected from another ecosystem (like Google) and wasn't properly finalized or synced with Microsoft Family on the organizer's side.

    Here’s what I recommend trying:

Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with your Microsoft organizer account.

Make sure you're on the same Microsoft domain as your child's account (e.g., both @outlook.com, or at least both Microsoft accounts).

If you still don’t see your child listed, it’s possible the family group was set up under a different Microsoft account. You might want to double-check for any alternate email addresses you’ve used in the past, just in case.

From your child’s account (on his laptop), go to https://account.microsoft.com/family as well and try to view the organizer from his side.

If he sees you listed, try this:

Go to https://family.microsoft.com from his device

Click on the three dots beside your name and see if there's an option like “Leave family group” (Note: This might not be available because only adults can leave, so you may have to manage this from your side).

Since he can’t leave and you can’t see him to remove him, you may need Microsoft Support to forcibly fix the family group from their side.

To escalate the issue directly to Microsoft, go here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/m...

    Let them know:

"The child account shows the organizer, but the organizer account does not list the child. The child cannot leave the family, and the organizer cannot remove the child."

They should be able to investigate and help clean this up.

I hope this helps clear the roadblock so your child can get back to playing Minecraft.

Please let me know how it goes or if you need help with the next steps.

    Thank you!

    Aileen

WHERE IS THE "Manage this child's access to third-party apps"?????

I'd suggest you to try to remove him from your family group and then add him again. Would you do that?

Also do you have other child accounts on your family group? If so, are they listed on that page or none of them is listed?

Parental consent needed to play online but i am an adult?

Hello, my name is Surya, and I am an independent advisor for the Xbox Community.

Even if you updated your Microsoft account's birthdate, Xbox may still recognize it as a child account if it was set up under a Family Group. To fix this

    Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family/home.

Sign in with your Microsoft account.

See if your account is part of a Family Group and listed as a child account.

If your account is part of a family group, you can leave the group and it should fix your issue.

let me know if this works, and update me on that Thanks!

Child account can see parent account, but the parent account can't see the child.

    Hi Jared,

Unfortunately, you may need to set up the family group again if the group is not properly displaying online from your mother's account. This is an odd issue I have never seen before. The child account cannot remove themselves from a family group and needs
to be removed by an adult in the family group, so this may be somewhat difficult to achieve if the parent account is not displaying the child account.

Do you have an Xbox One console by any chance to see if you guys can manage the family group from there?

Let us know if you have a console to see if it's the same.

I am the only one in my family group, and I am not the organizer. How can I change my safety settings?

My name is Fernando I'm an independent consultant, I'm happy to help

If you are of legal age (eg 18 in the US), you can remove yourself from the family group using a Windows device.
In the console, any other organizer in the family group can remove it. To do this, ask him to follow the steps in the previous section.
Note If you are the only organizer in a family group that includes child accounts, first remove the member from the family group. After removing them, add them to another family group so they can continue to use Xbox services.
    To remove yourself online:
Sign in to your family Microsoft account.
    Microsoft account
Under your name, select Leave Family.

Hope I helped and see you soon
