When will XBOX allow us to change our primary email address?

I can completely relate. I was in the same boat years ago with my Xbox account being tied to an old family email, and it’s something many of us have wanted to fix as we grew up.

The good news is that you can change the primary email (alias) on your Microsoft account without losing any Xbox data. Here’s how you can do it:

*Go to your Microsoft account page:

https://account.microsoft.com/profile

*Click "Your info", then scroll to "Account info > Sign-in preferences"

*Under “Account aliases,” you can add a new email address (your personal one)

*Once added and verified, you can make it the primary alias

*After that, you can remove the old one (your dad’s) if you want, or just leave it as a backup

Important: This doesn’t change your actual Xbox gamertag, saved data, achievements, or purchases — all that stays exactly the same, because it’s tied to the account, not just the email.

As of now, Microsoft doesn’t allow merging or transferring Xbox data from one account to another, so updating the alias is really the best move. I've done it myself and had zero issues.

Hoping I understand the issue correct, the following steps might be an option:

These steps should allow you to switch around the primary email addresses connected to both accounts

(this won't change any purchase/services linked to the MS account, only the primary email)

in order to achieve that, it might be possible to use a 3rd (temporary) email address (Microsoft Account).

Currently both email addresses have a MS and Xbox Live Account.

If you change the primary email for the account with the email address you want to use on your MS account connected to Random GT account to that new 3rd email address, that should result in the Celts12085 email to be free and after that you should be able
to change the primary email address connected to the Aragorn12085 account to Celts12085 email address.

Keep in mind that None of these accounts should be logged in on any device while doing this, so not on Windows PC, Phone or console etc. The reason for that is, that if they are signed in at anything related to Windows (10) it could result in a new Xbox
Live Account (with random GT) being generated.

you can't merge accounts itself or fully move the Xbox Live Account to a different Microsoft Account, but something that could work for you is changing the primary email address for the Microsoft Account.

My assumption what steps might be required are:

- Change the primary email on the New Unused Xbox Account account to something else (you might need a new MS account/email for that) so that the Wanted email address is no longer attached to a Microsoft Account.

- Change the primary email on the Old Xbox account to the new wanted email address, so that that Wanted email address can be used to sign in to the Xbox main account.

Can you clarify a bit. When I try to change the email address to the new outlook one on my xbox it won't allow it bc Microsoft automatically gave that email a gamertag when I opened it. When I change the primary email for the outlook email in the settings

In short it makes me create a new email address, but I want to use the outlook one I've already made and wouldn't I need
to wait 30 more days once that is created?

Thanks for the reply! I understood that you were able to change aliases and my apologies if the initial instructions were not clear. Sadly, we're unable to view your screenshots, but if you're getting any error messages, please feel free to share them.

The link that I posted previously gives instructions in a step-by-step manner to follow on how to effect the proper change to your existing alias (your father's email) to an email of your choosing without the loss of his ability to use his email address
in future.

To most easily make the change I am recommending that you do so from a PC, rather than from any console.

1. Log into your existing Xbox account at
   account.microsoft.com
2. Add the email address/alias (if not already on the account) that you wish to make the primary alias on that account.
3. Make that email address the primary alias. On the Manage your account aliases page, select
   Make primary under the email address you want as primary under
   Account alias.
4. Leave your father's email as an alternative email address on the account (for security purposes) & do not delete it. Important Do not remove this email address if you still want to use it to send and receive email messages.

This will then change the email address that you use to log in (the new primary alias) and will still allow your father's email address to be used by him to answer emails, use Skype, etc. The presence or absence of Xbox Live Gold on either account will not
effect the account regarding any change of alias.
