It will have all the steps available to try and recover your account.

You might have to contact Xbox Support, but if that is the case it will be mentioned at the time on the troubleshooting page.

Thank you, yes, I tried that. It doesn't work though, password reset requires the original e-mail address of my account and that one is, like I said, no longer in use. When I type it in, I also get the notification that there's no Microsoft account with that mail address.

You will need to fill out the Microsoft Account Recovery form located here if you no longer have access to the e-mail address or the ability to reset the password. You will need to
provide all information that's requested in the form in order to have the best chance of getting the e-mail's switched and the account returned to you.

Is it possible to change the main e-mail address associated with my Live ID/gamertag if the e-mail address no longer exists? I did not log into the account for years and now it's gone, so I cannot check the e-mails I would receive for things like password
