Why do I have to pay $10 to change my gamertag.

I joind xbox in 2021 when I created my first account. I used the gamertag BluBird2442, in 2023 I needed something different so I changed it to Scorbunny244 because it was my favorite pokemon. Now I want to change it as I have been growing up fast and I am not intrested in pokemon anymore. I tried to change it to something else but I got a notification from my wallet saying that xbox wants to charge me $10 and I feel like it had to do something with the Gamertag. I am no longer in interest for my old gamertag so I wanted to ask if that is the charge just for the gamertag?

yes if you have used the free gamertag change it costs 10$/€.

If you're short on money let me recommend you the MS Rewards program. If you frequently collect points you soon have enough to pay the fee for a gamertag change.

Afterwards you can buy games or add-ons with those points or redeem them for a game pass sub etc.

Gah! you kids are a bunch of freakin' babies. If you want to change your gamertag every 10 minutes then you're gonna have to pay the guy that changes the database records for it.

If you don't want to pay $10, then thats simple. DON'T CHANGE YOUR GAMERTAG!

$10 really isn't a lot of money for this. I mean, I have to pay more then $10 to have my phone number changed and I "maybe" do that once every 5 years.

Why do you really need to change your gamertag so much. I mean really?

But then i lose my free gamertag change. And have to pay 10€ for only one required change.

Why cant just an employee resets my gamertag to something random like the frist time you register.

Then i just change my name to "Contexys"
