Safely sharing child’s Xbox login with your ex

My ex-husband wants me to share my son’s login for Xbox, so he can use it at his house as well as mine.

The Xbox was bought by me since he and I separated due to domestic abuse.

I assume this would give him access to all information linked to the account such as bank details and usage.

I worry that by sharing the password he would have the facility to change the pin, passwords, block friends etc.

Is there any way my son can access his Fortnite account and/or XBox account on another console, in a different location, with me managing it remotely?

This is far from my area of expertise and I want to ensure I’m doing what’s best for my son without compromising my own security.

Your son should have their own account, which you as their parent can manage. This would safely protect your information

We see every day people who turn 18 and learn they can't take their parents account with them

First Remember you can make yout Home console and share your Xbox Live Benefits and your games with anyone that login in that console.

No if you want that your childs play each other... Your Child 1 can use the home console to have access to the game and Xbox Live Gold Account. But the other child need to have Xbox Live Gold and the game.

Ok, simply put

Child One has Xbox Live Gold and games.

Child two has their own console.

Child one sets child twos console to their home xbox. Thus allowing the sharing of child ones Live Gold and games.

Child one signs out and ensures auto login is switched off on child twos console.

Child one can login on any other console and have access to their games and Live Gold etc.

Edit: You can only have one Xbox console set as your Home Xbox console. As soon as you set another Xbox console as Home Xbox, it cancels the other out. So all having the 3rd console set as Home Xbox will wipe the other Home shares out.

Yes the Home Xbox is designed for use on one console and it will work as described with two consoles in the house. A third console would need its own Xbox Live account for the third person to be able to use Live Gold etc.

Unfortunately there is no way around digital transfers between accounts.

Microsoft Family is only for you asa an adult to be able to monitor your childrens accounts, as long as they are set up as the correct age and not attempting to bypass the restrictions that a child account has.

Same issue with one of my child's accounts. Wants to verify & login indefinitely, on laptop kind of works but the "fix it" status remains in the Family Safely portal, on Xbox link just goes to MS Store and does nothing else.

Since your son is minor I advise you to set the parental controls in order to keep the account safe:

In the end is the owner of the account that is responsible for how the account is used, both good and bad. Always be careful with whom you chose to share the account data.
