Switched over from an S to an X and my storage is entirely empty. I have an external drive and an expansion card, 6TB total, chock full of games and apps. They’re formatted and the Xbox reads that they’re there, but nothing shows up as being stored. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in while the console was on and off and reset the console as well.

    :)

The system needs to index them. If you have 6TB that will take awhile. Just leave the drive connected

    Optimized Games X|S

    Hi,

Both Series X/S games and Xbox One games that been optimised (I'm British) for Series X/S must be installed on either the internal storage or the expansion card. They can not be run from a USB connected storage device. My optimised Series X/S Xbox One games
were moved to my Expansion card during their update.

    External Storage

    Hi,

Yes you can use the drive, but Series X/S games can only be run either from the Internal storage or the optional Expansion card (sold separately). They can't be run from older slower external hard drives. You can store them on these drives for later though.

If your Xbox One game has been 'Optimised for Series X' then it must be run from either the Internal SSD or Expansion card

Xbox One and other BC games can be run on either storage device, but will have significantly improved loading times if you install them internally or to the Expansion card.

The Xbox Series X/S is backwards compatible with all Xbox One games (with the exception of Kinect titles). On the Series X you insert the disc and install an Xbox One game just like you would on the original Xbox One.

Download move to internal on a Xbox Series X.

You can set it so that games optimised for the Series X/S are downloaded to the internal storage automatically, if that helps. Go to Settings - System - Storage devices - Change installation locations and you can change the settings there.

I dunno why there's no warning, but yeah; games optimised for Series X/S consoles can only be run from the internal SSD or a Seagate expansion card, not a regular external hard drive.

    External/ Internal

I'm assuming you're referring to a Series S/X. If so, Series S/X optimized games can only be run from the internal drive or one of the expansion cards made for those consoles. Other external storage devices can store the games, but they will have to be moved to be able to run them. They can store and play older games though.
