How do I install pc xbox gamepass games to my external hard drive?

how do i reformat it without deletting my drive and the games were installed on an external hard drive.

So when i buy an external hard drive do will that add on to my console storage or do games i install install to the external hard drive and my xbox one will play them from there? just curious

It’s likely not working because the Xbox app needs a clean folder with proper permissions to install games. Copying the XboxGames folder from C: doesn’t carry over the right control settings, and choosing a sub-folder can cause permission issues.

Create a new folder directly on the root of the external drive called XboxGames (don’t copy it from your C: drive), then right-click it and select Properties. Under the Security tab, add "Everyone" to the list of users and grant it full control permissions.

After that, go to the Xbox app > Settings > General > Change where this app installs games, and select that new folder. Also, try running the Xbox app as administrator to make sure it has full access.

I couldn't find the general tab in the settings, but I assume install options is the same? I set it to my hard drive, but there's no option to change the file until I try to install a game, and when I selected the empty "xboxgames" folder I created on my hard drive (and I also made sure to go into properties and select "everyone" for full permissions), but it still didn't work. (Also for some reason, my xbox app won't show up with an option to open as administrator even though other apps do. Sorry for the bad quality picture, I had to take it with my phone.)
