Xbox Series X displaying a dark screen

It displays a dark screen no matter what I’ve tried. It worked just fine yesterday, this morning it had this issue unprompted nothing changed. I’ve tried swapping hdmi ports, swapping HDMI’s, turning it off and back on again, resetting it, and unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Update: it’s only the when using the xbox home and its other pages. When I load into a game the game looks perfect

Update 2: I messed with display settings which made the game even appear the same style

None of those fixed it. However, when I did plug it into a different TV it worked. The part where that doesn’t make sense is everything else about the TV is perfectly fine and my PS5 is having no issue.

Nevermind my TV is struggling lol, if I try Hulu the menu works but as soon as it’s a show it struggles. I try YouTube same thing. But the PS5 all the way through works perfectly lol

I'm sorry you're experiencing these issues. Please follow these steps:

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

2. Select Profile & system > Settings.

3. Under General, select TV & display options > Video fidelity and overscan.

4. Select overrides and select Auto detect.

Also, check if this also happens when you select a different resolution on your console and disable features like HDR.

If possible, check if the issue persists when using a different TV or monitor.

Hi,

Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox was only optimised for Xbox One X it hasn't been optimised for the Series S or X hardware. On the Series S it runs in Xbox One Backwards compatibility mode. As such, it runs at around 900P (around 1600x900). This means it will look quite soft looking on a 4K display, although it should not affect the colours or the contrast.

Unfortunately, RDR2 is not great on the Series S, especially on a 4K display. FIFA 23 is Series S|X optimised, which is why this game looks a lot better.

The Deluxe edition includes both the Xbox One and Series X/S versions so you'll be able to freely install it to your Xbox One when it releases in April.

The Series X supports 1080P resolution in the settings same as Xbox One and One X. Games on Series X will still render in 4K, but will downscale to whatever display you have. There won't be any loss in quality at all.
