Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you want to modify the initial email address of your Mother that was used on your account a decade ago.

You cannot change the initial email address that you setup with Microsoft and all of your purchases are bound to that account.

What you can do instead is to add a new alias. An alias is an additional email address associated with your Outlook.com account.

An alias uses the same inbox, contact list, and account settings as your primary email address. You can sign in to your Outlook.com account with any alias—they all use the same password.

To add an alias, follow these steps:

Go to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=864833.

Sign in to your Microsoft account, if prompted.

Under Add an alias, do one of the following:

Create a new Outlook.com email address and add it as an alias.

Add an existing email address as an alias.

Shouldn't cause a problem.
I'd recommend reading over this page, as it can have some impact. The biggest impact would be if your mother has any Microsoft Account services, like O365, tied to that Microsoft Account as well.

I just don't understand why I can't swap the email of that account without the hotmail account being deleting. I fail to understand a reason behind that. Both the accounts are available for me to use, but the email of the old account is my mothers and I want the email and password to be my own as it's my account.

Can I create a new xbox account but move my subscriptions and games over from my old one. My Microsoft account is linked to my mothers, and I want my own account with my own email address but don't want to lose all my games and live subscription?

Yes you can, you can hold the account of your mother on yout xbox and create a newone and in this way u can share all your games and subscriptions on your new profile or if u have 2 different xbox u can do the xbox home process

I don't want to link an email to my current account. Is there no way to just change the email for my Xbox account without deleting my current Microsoft account?
