    Why can't I change my gamertag to an old one I previously had?


    So... I want to change my gamertag to my original username I've had for years, which is "Lolbit". since I've changed it previously I know I'll have to pay and I'm fine with that, but the problem is that I can't change it to that username for some reason. I didnt have a problem with that username back in 2018 (on my old Xbox account, with my Xbox One S) but now in the current day, I can't change my name to my main username since "this gamertag is not allowed". I thought it was cause of the wording, but I tried different variations of my username and some are accepted, so I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with my username. I also do understand the gamertag changes, and i am fine with the suffix (even though I'm TECHNICALLY the original) as long as I can have my old username back!!

    very likely someone else has claimed it in the interim. There are bots always looking for gamer tags being abandoned and this is a very popular character from what I can see

    (a)Yes, I have two accounts on the same email. (b)Yes, I changed the gamertag on my account. (c)No, as I stated previously, my old gamertag was on my old console and my new gametag is on my new console. I am using only one console.

    There's hope for the future, though. When a Gamertag is changed, the old one doesn't immediately become available.

    If I change my gamertag today from "" to "I Am " it won't let anybody else change their tag to "" for some time.

    I remember a year or so ago Major Nelson announced that many of the previously unavailable Gamertags would become available again. It's possible that if the gamertag you want was previously in use, but isn't anymore, it could become available again in the

    Based on the information I've gathered, there are certain reasons as to why the Gamer tag is not allowed anymore and it's the enforcement team who decides. Most likely, a letter combination is not allowed, or the advance system prevents you from using it now.

    Kindly try changing some characters around and see if you can find a suitable combination that works.

    gamertag XXX is no longer allowed

    It isn't in use, but it is registered to me still - and that is why I was trying to transfer my gamertag to that account rather then just rename FUBAR PhD to something else. Like I said previously that was an old gamertag I had registered. I didn't renew
    my XBOX live subscription, but did create a new account - as back then you couldn't simply rename a gamertag - the system forced you to create an entirely new gametag if you wanted to change names.

    I'm hoping there is a way to transfer my account.
