Never changed gamertag but still have to pay?

I am 99.9% sure that I have never changed my gamertag, however it still says I need to pay $10 to change it. Aren’t I supposed to get a free change? If so, how do I see when I changed it and what it used to be? I definitely don’t remember having ever changed it.

Only if you didnt pick your gamertag when you created your account and got a randomly generated one.

Your gamertag isnt a randomly generated one and had to have been picked. Unless something has changed over the years, then that counts as your free change

When i go to change it it says i have to pay. But i never changed the name so i should still have a free gamertag change

did you try on the xbox and if it said $10 then you have to pay it. you never change your gamertag

The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that name for the first time. Since the tag you have is one of your own choosing, you have technically already used your change so
you will have to pay if you want to change it.
