With the Xbox 360 console it generally does not connect to a modern wireless network unless it is set to legacy (802.11abg) or if the setting LDPC (low density parity check) is disabled on the router for networks 802.11N and above.

Practically all the internal wifi modules in Xbox 360 slim basically won't connect to any modern network without hindering the network to legacy or disabling LDPC, problem is that this setting is not exposed on many routers. This problem effects all devices that have a marvell wireless chipset so it seems. The issue presents it's self as device is not connected to a network when it is.

The effected wifi modules devices 1501 and 1400 which are almost exclusively fitted to all slim type consoles. One of the two variants for the phat console (WKS168) is also affected. That is a potential for a good chunk of 84 million units as shipped worldwide to be impacted.

Disabling the setting enables normal use with an 802.11n or above network.

Some of the ASUS gaming routers have a setting called xbox compatibility to fix this connection issue.

    :)

XBOX 360 wifi bug console won't connect to modern wireless networks. 802.11n LDPC (low density parity check) bug.

I believe that is incorrect, this is a firmware issue / Kernel issue with the Xbox 360.

In the data sheet in reference to LDPC transmission and reception is supported but it can't be posted here (NDA)

The Xbox 360 slim wireless modules 1400 and 1501 are both Wireless N it is even listed in the fcc documents yet the dont work on a wireless n network without disabling a standard of the spec.

    Microsoft 802.11 b/g/n WLAN Client 1501 FCC ID C3K1501

    https://fccid.io/C3K1400

Both devices only operate on the 2.4ghz band (N150) the original phat wireless device with two antennas is the only Xbox 360 wireless module that supports the 2.4 and 5g bands (N600) it is not a requirement to support both bands in the 802.11n specifications.

    Microsoft - TechInfoDepot

The wifi module 1501 and 1400 with the 88W8786U do not seem to fully conform to the 802.11n standard as the firmware/ software side is does not support LDPC which is a requirement of the spec.

I'm sorry the Xbox 360 is no longer supported or updated. It's been out of production for a decade.

you'll have to use an ethernet connection

    Hi Professor,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you want to connect your Xbox 360 to Wi-Fi but you're experiencing issues.

This is not a bug but more of a hardware limitation. Xbox 360 was release 20 years ago, reason why its hardware is limited to 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi connection.

If you're using a Wi-Fi, I would recommend that you use 2.4Ghz and not 5Ghz bandwidth so you can connect your console. If your new router only supports 5Ghz, what you can do instead is use an Ethernet cable and connecting your console directly to your router.

I hope this answered your question directly and cleared out any confusion that you may had.

    Regards,

    Alvaro

Using the built in wireless or dongle on the 4gb Xbox 360 slim?

    Hello,

Xbox 360 S console: The Xbox 360 S console’s built-in Wi-Fi uses the 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) frequency band. If your router is broadcasting using another frequency, your Xbox 360 S console cannot connect to your wireless network. Check your router
documentation to find out how to set your router to broadcast at 2.4 GHz. If you want to connect using the 5 GHz frequency band, you will need to add the black Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter to your Xbox 360 S console.

Xbox 360 S console and black adapter: The Xbox 360 S console and the black Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter cannot use the 802.11n wireless protocol in combination with WEP or WPA TKIP encryption. If your router requires WEP or WPA encryption,
your console will try to connect to your wireless network using a slower wireless protocol such as 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11a.

Use WPA2 if possible: The best wireless encryption to use with your Xbox 360 console is WPA2 with AES encryption.

Wireless N router and a gray adapter: If you have an 802.11n or N type router and a gray Xbox 360 Wireless G Networking Adapter, configure your N type router to use a mixed mode; broadcast using a combination of wireless standard N and either B, G, or
    A.
Internal WiFi is wireless N, the only advantage to having the black network adapter is to connect using a 5GHZ frequency.
