    Why can't I join my friends or any server/world on Minecraft Java (on MacBook)?


    I recently downloaded Minecraft on my MacBook after years of not playing. My friends and I want to create a survival world together or at least play on a public server, but for some reason we can't? We have been trying for weeks to join eachother and have tried everything. I have spent hours researching and watching videos but nothing seems to work. When I try to join a public surver, it just says that it's not found, or when I try to find a local one it will just scan for hours and never find anything (my friends do). This is super frustrating as I only bought this game to play with my friends. Currently $50 wasted.

    I am having the same problem, however, for me, it is my friend who is on the Xbox and I am on the Windows 10 version. He cant join the world that I created anymore. He can, however, join me if I create a new world and I can join any of his old
    worlds. I Have a theory on what the problem is. We were playing the game fine one afternoon and we both had to get off for a bit to do other things. When I came back it said that my game was updated and some bugs were fixed. From then on my friend can't
    join any previous worlds I created but he can join new ones. You will encounter a similar problem on the java edition of Minecraft if you try to connect to a server with a wrong client version. It appears as if the clients updated but the world it's self
    did not which is why my friend can't join. That is my theory at least. I did what you said above and it and it still doesn't work.

    If you cannot add friends or join their world, follow these steps to fix the issue:

    Both Java and Bedrock players can experience trouble adding people or joining their world due to their Microsoft account privacy settings.

    You may be having trouble joining other people's world because of your NAT status (This depends on your network configuration, but it can be fixed)

    Your friend may not have his world set as "Open to LAN" or if he is hosting the server on a PC, his ports are maybe closed which is why you can't join.

    Your firewall might be preventing you from joining the world
