    Is Xbox one being selective about WiFi speeds?


    I’ve noticed over the last 3 days that my Xbox just doesn’t want to pick up a normal down or especially upload speed.

    No, Ethernet is not an option.

    My WiFi signal says it’s 100% or real close to that consistently. Yet it’s about 15 feet away from the source; no walls interfering much less any smart appliances.

    I’ve even done the hard restart on my console and no matter what I try with it, it just doesn’t pick up a good connection. It’s very slow for what it’s capable of. My phone is fine, speed tests on it prove that it’s not the direct source. But my detailed network statistics on the console get pretty wonky when it comes to down and upload speeds.

    Normal on the console is about 130-140+ mbps down and upload is 30-39mbps during non peak hours; but now it’ll get maybe 50-60 mbps down and like 10mbps upload… ridiculous when my 4 year old iPhone gets over 300 mbps during non peak hours, and about 38upload; around 140-250 mbps down during peak hours and 34+ upload.

    I just don’t get it. I’ve forgotten the network and reentered the password to give it a fresh start, which seems to help under normal conditions.

    I’ve even gone as far as opening all the ports up. I learned this several years ago when I was getting disconnected from online sessions regularly and there was nothing wrong with my connection. (Which is necessary, and makes a world of a difference for smooth, stronger and stable connections). It does carry through extenders, and mesh set ups and what not; but in order to open them and reserve the ip address of the Xbox or any other one device only, you must connect directly to your router first.

    Anyways, anyone else noticing this issue? Is it a software or hardware issue? What else could I try (within reason) to correct this issue?

    ***DO NOT suggest that I remove my profiles and factory reset my console. That is not within reason, and it’s just throwing out useless unhelpful guesses.***

    Slow download speeds

    Hello, MaTRiix!

    WiFi speeds can be impacted for various reasons.

    Some of those reasons include:

    • A game is currently being downloaded or updated
    • The modem is too far from the console
    • The WiFi frequency you're using
    • How many devices are currently connect and/or using the selected WiFi connection

    This may help resolve this issue. Mesh network is amazing orbi is definitely the best in my opinion. Hope this helps.
    The problem is not with xbox-live connexion, but wifi connexion. Will this help me then ?

    Speaking about orbi, I thought it would work better. The speed entering the orbi is about 320Mbps, when I connect to the orbit with ethernet, I still have 320 Mbps, but with wifi, 1 meter from it, the speed is less than 100Mbps... then in the other rooms,
    it is worse.

    The weird thig is that if I stand at the end of my house, the maximum speed with wifi is about 60Mbps (base -> satellite mid way -> device), but if the satellite is there (at the end of the house) and I connect with ethernet, the speed is about 110Mbps.
    Seems that the connexion between the base and the satellite is much better the "simple" wifi.

    I've added a wifi booster in the problem room. Even with 100% wifi signal, the download speed was terrible (0.01 mbps). I've connected the xbox one to the wifi repeater via an ethernet cable and the problems seem to have cleared (download speed of 13.9
    mbps). Has the wifi card in the xbox started to go bad?

    On the built in speed test you should see an immediate difference, if not then you havent disconnected from the wifi, or a cable issue...remember to keep ethernet cables away from AC power cables

    Also I think downloads are all hosted from MS servers, its just EA servers that are used for online sessions/lobbies

    At least its being addressed somewhere... If the problem isnt accepted as a real problem, nothing will ever be done about it.

    Edit: On page 2 i see your photo of the download speed test... that was on Wifi correct?

    Is your console connected via an Ethernet cord or via WiFi?

    If it's a wireless connection, be aware, that network speed via WiFi is dependent on several factors: Is your Router 802.11ac capable? If so, does it support MIMO? Otherwise only one antenna and channel is used to transmit data, and if multiple WiFi devices
    interact with the WiFi, the speed of the WiFi decreases with the amount of devices using the WiFi.

    Also, the more wireless interference is introduced (number of walls between your router and the console, and the amount of metal around your home causing "echoes" in the WiFi signals, or neighboring WiFi networks or wireless devices that interfere with your
    WiFi connection.

    That being said, WiFi is always a bad choice for high performance networking.
