  1. Family Safety - How do I allow my son to play multiplayer on Minecraft Java Edition?

I've reviewed all the necessary settings on the family safety and Xbox privacy sections, logged off of Minecraft and the Minecraft launcher, rebooted the PC, uninstalled all versions of Minecraft and the Launcher then reinstalled, and the "Multiplayer" button is still greyed out stating not allowed due to account settings.

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you with your concern.

Good thing you have already managed his settings.

To re-sync the changes that you have made, please sign in to the Minecraft launcher using a different account or your account. After that, sign back in using his account to check if there will be an improvement.

    Hello Chicken Nugget7768768,

Thank you for posting here in Xbox Forums, we hope you are doing fine.

We would like to confirm few things, may we confirm if you have issue playing with your sister? May we know if you have been ban?

If the answer is yes, here are the things you need to know before multiplayer and ban.

Multiplayer need to be allow by the organizer of your Microsoft account. Kindly ask your mom or parent or guardian or an adult to set up a Microsoft Family and add you and your sister as member. Then, the organizer of Microsoft Family which is your mom or parent or guardian or an adult will need to access this link to log-in to their Xbox profile: https://account.xbox.com/Settings

On Xbox profile, your organizer will need to set your account and your sister's account to allow you both to create and join clubs and multiplayer. Please see guide here: How to Manage Parental Consent, Family Settings and Realms/Multiplayer Access for a Child Account – Home (minecraft.net)

I can't play multiplayer on java?? It says I have to check my microsoft account I can't find anything though

    Hi lev!

May I know if this is your first time trying to play multiplayer in Minecraft Java Edition?

On which server are you trying to play?

I recommend to check the article here about multiplayer of Minecraft Java Edition. Make sure check if you have the right setup.

    https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/44...

If it's asking you to update your Microsoft's account privacy, please go to https://account.xbox.com/Settings and allow the settings needed for communicating with other players.

If I buy Minecraft on the Minecraft site, do I also have to buy the $20.00 xbox version ontop of the minecraft version to play it?

No, you do not need to buy the Xbox version separately just to play multiplayer on the version you already purchased. Since you bought Minecraft on the Minecraft site for $30, you likely have the Java & Bedrock Edition for PC. Multiplayer access is controlled by Xbox Live settings, even on PC, because Microsoft requires an Xbox account for online play in Bedrock Edition.

    1. Check Microsoft Family Settings
      • Since you've allowed multiplayer in the Xbox Family Safety app, double-check that the setting was correctly applied.
      • Go to Microsoft Family Safety and ensure your account has multiplayer enabled under "Privacy & online safety."
    2. Adjust Xbox Privacy Settings (Even for PC)
      • Sign in to Xbox Privacy Settings.
      • Under "Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices online safety," enable:
        • "You can join multiplayer games" → Allow
        • "You can play with people outside of Xbox Live" → Allow
        • "You can create and join clubs" → Allow (optional but may help)
    3. Sign Out & Restart Minecraft
      • After making changes, sign out of both the Xbox app and Minecraft, then sign back in to refresh permissions.
No! If you bought Minecraft for PC, you do not need to buy the Xbox version. You just need to fix the parental control settings. If it still doesn't work after these steps, you could contact Minecraft Support or consider requesting a refund if you're unable to use multiplayer at all.
