    Hey there,

    Are you and your friend in the same Country/Region? I live in Canada and my friend lives in the USA, he tried to surprise me by gifting me a game for Christmas however it didn't work as we are in different countries. He had to contact support to get a refund for the game. In the end he sent me money to purchase the game as he wanted to give me a present haha!

    I also received a gift from a friend. I live in Brazil, and my friend in USA. I can not redeem my gifts.
    Sadly the gifts are region specific this is why. I suggest reaching out to support to see if there is any refund that can be done.

    How come xbox will allow you to pay for a digital gift, but wont work in other countries due to geo fencing

    Is there a way people can gift from overseas or no becuase my friend gifted me a game overseas and i feel bad becuase he spent 60$ on the game to give it to me and it wont redeem just because he lives in a austria

    Currently the game gifting program is country specific, so you can only redeem gifts sent from users in USA. Knowing this I would suggest your friends seeks a refund through billing support, here http://support.xbox.com/contact-us
