    "Unable to Recover My Microsoft Account – 'We Couldn't Find an Account with That Username'"


    My Microsoft account was hacked several months ago, and the hacker changed both the email and password associated with the account. I’ve been trying to recover my account since then, but I’m unable to regain access because I can’t verify the new email they changed it to.

    When I try to recover my account, I receive the following message:

    'We couldn't find an account with that username. Try another, or get a new Microsoft account.'

    I have proof that the account is mine, including:

    • Minecraft purchases tied to this account.
    • My credit card information used for purchases on the account.
    • The IP address of the hacker, which I can provide.
    Despite having this proof, I’ve been unable to recover my account through the regular process. I’ve tried using the recovery form, but it doesn’t work because of the changes to my account’s email and password.

    Can someone from Microsoft help me recover my account or suggest another way to prove that the account is mine? I’m very concerned about losing access to my account permanently.

    I’m sorry to hear that your account may have been compromised. We’re here to help you regain access and secure it. Typically, if there's an account request change on your account, like your email address being changed, you will receive an email indicating this change and it will take 30 days before it will be completed. If you receive this email, please check the new email address that you have. They have probably changed the sign-in preferences of your account, thus this error message occurs.

    After that, since your email address was changed, you’ll need to use the new email address to submit a request for account recovery at this link: https://account.live.com/acsr. Once you fill out the form, someone from the Microsoft account recovery team will reach out through your email to help you recover your compromised account. Additionally, please avoid leaving any fields blank when filling out the form. If you're unsure about certain information, make your best guess instead.

    If you're unsure of the new email address, unfortunately, we won’t be able to recover it directly. However, you can try retrieving your email address here: https://account.live.com/username/recover using the phone number associated with your account.

    Also, the gmail.com originally associated with the account still exists but no longer exists in the Microsoft database or whatever. "We couldn't find an account with that username. Try another, or get a new Microsoft account." The email itself isn't hacked, just my Minecraft Java account.

    If I may ask, did you remove the primary email address of your Microsoft account prior to this error?
