How to fix Xbox shutting off when I open certain games

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues when playing certain games. The best way to avoid game crashes or freezing is to make sure the software on your Xbox is up to date. Since you mentioned that you already updated your console to the latest update, I would recommend that you perform a power cycle to reset the console's power supply. Note that this is different from a normal restart, kindly follow the steps below.

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 50 seconds.

Important: Make sure that you wait at least 50 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

3. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Sleep mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Sleep mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

Allow me to add two things that you might want to consider:

1. Ensure your Xbox One console is in a cool, well-ventilated place. - Make sure the console is free of clutter and that no vents are obstructed

2. Inspect the power cable—Are you using the right one? It should have been included with your Xbox. Also, is the power cable completely and firmly connected to both the power outlet and console?

3. Check the power outlet—Does anything else power on when connected to the same outlet? Try plugging in another electronic device to see if it works. And if you're using a power strip or surge protector, make sure it's receiving power through its outlet too.

I have a Slim, 250GB.. The xbox has been shutting off randomly not as if it were crashing but as if it were acualy being turned off via power button, there is so certain amount of 'dings' etc it's all random. The disk tray has not came open yet. It's very
strange tbh.

So when I got to play certain games such as Red dead Redemption 2, I go to start the game the xbox turns off, I turn it back on and it says due to overheating the xbox shut itself off yet my xbox is well ventilated. Does the same on star wars battlefront
2, The division, and Metro Exodus

Could you give us more details around the shut downs. If it is when you are doing nothing you could have it set to auto shut off after a certain period of time. Alternatively there are some games that currently have this issue on xbox. So it really
does depend.

Hey dude, I am not sure if you solved this error yet, but I was having the same issue. Additionally, my controllers were acting all weird (like they wouldn't shut off when I said "xbox off" and the system shut off and they wouldn't work when I tried to use
them). I tried opening Killer Instinct, which I'd been playing just a few hours ago and couldn't open it. Other things worked fine, such as TV and messages. Anyway, when I tried to play Battlefield 4, I got the same error as you. Here's how I fixed it:

1) Turn the xbox off (I just said xbox off).

2) Unplug your xbox for about a minute.

3) Plug the xbox back in and turn it on.

I wonder if maybe I just cycled thru way too many apps? Saying "xbox off" just puts it into a standby mode which allows it to turn back on a lot faster. If you unplug it and plug it back in, you'll notice that it takes the kinect a bit to turn back on and
the system sits on the Xbox screen for a bit before going to the dashboard. I don't know how to actually turn it off, yet...? But this fixed my issue! I hope it helps you, too!
