  1. Xbox Series X controller keeps disconnecting during gameplay

I've been experiencing a persistent issue with my Xbox Series X controller where it keeps disconnecting during gameplay sessions. It seems to happen at random intervals, usually right in the middle of an intense moment, which can be really frustrating. I've tried changing the batteries and even connecting the controller via USB, but the problem still persists.

Is there anyone else who's faced a similar issue or might have suggestions on how to resolve this? I've also ensured that the firmware is up to date, but it hasn't made any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    :)

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with your controller being disconnected in the middle of gameplay.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please re-pair the Controller by turning off your Xbox and the controller.

    Turn the console back on.

On the controller, press and hold the pairing button (the small round button on the top of the controller) until the Xbox button starts flashing.

Press the pairing button on the Xbox Series X (located on the front of the console) to re-pair the controller.

And then update the controller's firmware. Kindly connect the controller to the Xbox Series X with a USB cable.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

Select the controller and choose "Update."

Next is to check for wireless interference:

Other wireless devices (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, other Bluetooth devices) could be causing interference with your Xbox controller's signal.

Please your Xbox to a different location, away from large wireless devices or metal objects. Ensure that there are no physical obstructions between the console and controller.

If the issue persist after performing the troubleshooting steps kindly use a wired connection by connecting the controller to the console with a USB cable.

This can help determine if the issue is related to the wireless connection.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Controller keeps disconnecting during gameplay on Xbox Series X

Hello and welcome to our community!

We’re excited to have you here and have great conversations! I'd be happy to be of assistance.

I am sorry to hear about this issue. I had similar issues before and the steps below have resolved them:

    Step 1: Power Drain (Controller)

    1. Remove the batteries on your controller even if it's turned on

    2. Press and hold the Xbox button for 10 seconds. This will 1 the remaining power.

    3. Wait 2 minutes.

    4. Insert the batteries back into the controller

    Step 2: Power Drain (Xbox)

    1. Make sure that your console is turned on then unplug the power cable at the back to turn it off.

    2. Press the power button for about 15 seconds even though it's already off. (This will remove the remaining power on your Xbox)

    3. Wait for 2 minutes and plug the power cable

    4. Turn on the console and the controller then wait for the dashboard to appear

    5. Play a game then test to see if it works.

    Step 3:

    - Try using a different Xbox controller to see if the issue persists using a different controller.

    Step 4:

    - If the above steps still don't work, try plugging a wired connection to see if it still disconnects. If so, there might be an issue with your controller. You might want to check the warranty of your controller to see if it can still be replaced.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks!

Xbox Series X controller keeps disconnecting during gameplay

    Hi Gerry,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Xbox Series X controller. I understand that it gets disconnected even when it's plugged in.

As part of our troubleshooting, try to remove your batteries and connect it through USB cable and see if you will encounter the same issue.

If it works normally through USB without a battery, Try to reduce interference from other devices when using it wirelessly. Common sources include microwaves, cordless phones, and Bluetooth devices. Try to keep these devices away from your console or to your Xbox controller as this may cause disconnection.

    Regards,

    Alvaro

Controller keeps disconnecting during gameplay on Xbox Series X

    Hello Dear User

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are having trouble on your controller keeps disconnecting on Xbox Series X, and I understand your confusion.

It sounds frustrating to have your controller disconnecting during gameplay on the Xbox Series X, especially when you’ve already replaced the batteries and ensured your console is updated. Let's try a few more troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue:

    Re-pair the Controller

Sometimes, the connection between the controller and the Xbox console may be disrupted. To re-pair:

    • Turn off the Xbox and the controller.
    • Turn the console back on.
    • On the controller, press and hold the pairing button (the small round button on the top of the controller) until the Xbox button starts flashing.
    • Then, press the pairing button on the Xbox Series X (located on the front of the console) to re-pair the controller.
    Reset your controller

To reset your controller, open the Xbox Accessories app on Windows, press the Start button , type Xbox Accessories, or choose it from the list, and then sign in. If the app isn't installed on your PC, get it here:

Xbox Accessories - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

When you open the Xbox Accessories app, scroll to your controller and select Set up to get started.

    • Choose New profile, and then make your changes. When you're done, press the B button for the changes to take effect.
    • If you're changing an existing profile, choose it from the list, and then select Edit. Make your edits, and then press the B button for the changes to take effect.
    • Select your controller in the app and choose Configure. Choose a profile, and then select Edit > Restore to default. This returns the controller to its original factory settings.
    Check for Wireless Interference

    • Other wireless devices (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, other Bluetooth devices) could be causing interference with your Xbox controller's signal.
    • Try moving your Xbox to a different location, away from large wireless devices or metal objects.
    • Make sure there are no physical obstructions between the console and controller.
    Update the Controller's Firmware

Even if your console is updated, your controller might need an update too.

    • Connect the controller to the Xbox Series X with a USB cable.
    • Go to Settings > Devices & Connections > Accessories.
    • Select the controller and check for updates. If there is a firmware update available, install it.
    Try a Different USB Cable/Port

    • If you're using a wired connection for the controller, the issue might be with the cable or the USB port.
    • Try using a different USB cable or plug the controller into a different USB port on the console to see if the issue persists.
    Power Cycle the Console

A hard reboot can sometimes fix strange connectivity issues.

    • Turn off your Xbox Series X completely.
    • Unplug the power cable for about 10 seconds.
    • Plug it back in, and then turn the Xbox back on.
    Test with Another Controller

If you have another Xbox controller, try using it to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is with the controller or the console.

    Console Settings and Wi-Fi Issues

If you're playing online, sometimes the issue might be related to your internet connection rather than the controller itself:

    • Test your network connection and ensure you're not experiencing high latency or drops.
    • If you’re on Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired Ethernet connection to improve stability.
Factory Reset the Console (Last Resort)

If all else fails, you could try a factory reset on the Xbox Series X. Be sure to back up your data first if you go down this route.

    • Go to Settings > System > Console Info > Reset Console.
    • Choose Reset and keep my games & apps to preserve your content but reset system settings.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best Regards.
