My game crashed after playing for a while and the screen darkened when it got to home screen

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Xbox where it crashed while you are gaming for some time. The best way to avoid game crashes or freezing is to make sure the software on your Xbox is up to date. Follow the steps below to check for updates.

Select the Home button in the center of your controller.

Select Settings.

Select System.

Available updates will be listed under Console info.

If your system is up to date, I would recommend that you perform a power cycle to reset the console's power supply, kindly follow the steps below.

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 50 seconds.

Important: Make sure that you wait at least 50 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

3. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Sleep mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Sleep mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

To avoid overheating that may cause freezing or crashing in the future, please ensure your Xbox console is in a cool, well-ventilated place. - Make sure the console is free of clutter and that no vents are obstructed.

I just got the same on Xbox, when loading Ori is floating on a grey screen, and then the game crashes. Gets me back to the Xbox home screen.

What happened just before, was I was running quicker than the screen could be displayed. When Ori reappeared on screen, it was stuck between walls, and the auto save kicked in. Since then grey screen when loading the save, and this is after 16 hours of game
play trying to complete it.

A bit frustrated, tried the last 2 backup saves. But still the same. Will try a third one later.

Hey, I have got exactly the same issue. But instead of reverting to home screen, the console turns off

I have tested a few game pass games and experienced issues with all of them. Some do not start up, some I could play for some time before the console crashed and others crashed when I tried to go back to home screen myself.

I have the same problem:

DR3 - either crashes to home screen, or gets stuck at "Loading"

AC4 - either crashes to home screen, or gets stuck loading the save game

KI- crashes to home

COD- Goes into a loop going back to the splash screen after showing the menu for a second or two

These are all digital download games. I'm on my 2nd replacement xbox and support hasn't been able to help me at all.

My friends and I have been experiencing this as well but I believe we’ve found a work around to the loading screen issue. Its a little annoying but it seems to work. Start by loading up the game, while its loading press the home button, from there scroll
to the profile and system tab. From there go to settings > network settings > go offline. This will stop the game from crashing while loading. After its loaded quickly go back online and it should either work, or take you back to the home screen asking if
you own the game. Just click on the game again and it will go through the screens. After that you should be able to get into your friends game. Unfortunately that doesnt fix the plothera of other bugs that make the game crash while playing! Anyways hope this
