Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your controller. I understand that the right joystick is having problems.

As part of our initial troubleshooting, please power cycle your controller: Press and hold the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds until the controller turns off. Wait a few seconds, and then press and hold the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on.

In addition, kindly make sure that you have the latest firmware updates installed:

Connect the controller directly to your console or Windows device using a USB-C cable (or USB to micro-USB cable for Xbox One controllers).

If the controller works properly with a cable connection, continue to the next step.

If your controller turns on when connected with a cable, try updating the controller firmware:

On a Windows PC, you can do this by installing the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store, and then connecting the controller while the app is open.

On an Xbox console, press the Xbox button to open the guide and then select Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Controllers & headsets. Select “…” under the controller that you're troubleshooting to check the firmware status.

Another tip is to clean your controller

Dust and debris can build up inside the controller and affect the electrical components. You can try cleaning the controller with isopropyl alcohol, cotton buds, and a hair dryer.

If you've updated the firmware, tried to reset the controller but the R3 is still not working, we can conclude that it's a hardware issue and you'll have to send it to Xbox for further checking. To set up a replacement order or check your controller's warranty status, go to:

Having the same issue. Right joystick only works in test mode and when magnifier is on. I can actually go into the controller settings and “swap sticks” and then the right joystick works but not the left. So clearly the controller is working properly and not damaged or faulty. Feels like its some sort of software/setting issue. Same problem on (4) separate controllers and (2) different xbox consoles….

I have bought a new controller, tried different batteries in both controllers, reset the console deleting everything and the issue is still there.

The issue started when I downloaded and started to play COD MW5. The game started and I had no functionality in the right joystick. I went to the dashboard and the right joystick still didn’t work. I tested all the buttons on the controller and they all registered, including the right joystick.

I attempted to play Diablo this morning and noticed during game play and the menus, the right joystick did not work. However if I paused the game, I was able to turn my character around by using the right joystick.

I sent my console in for repair about a week ago for the same exact issue. I get it back this past Monday and issue is still there. They didn’t send me a refurbish unit because I recorded my serial number before I shipped it off and it’s the same console. I called Microsoft to see what exactly the issue was and nobody will tell you.

This is horrible to have a game system that cost this much money for not even a month and already having issues.

My Xbox One controller randomly disconnects. I have tried to sync the controller to my console, but the controller continues to flash, even after the console’s “X” has stopped flashing. This is a brand new Sport Blue, wireless controller, so I know its
not the controller. My old controller works fine, so it can’t be the console. Right?

I have updated the controller and that did not fix the issue. I reset the console keeping the apps/data and that did not fix the issue. I reset the console to factory settings and that did not fix the issue. I have unplugged the console from the power cord for hours and that did not fix the issue.

I went and bought a brand new Xbox x controller and the issue was still there.

When I tested both controllers on the accessories app, the right joystick movements and clicks is registered and When I turn magnifying on the right joystick works and is registering movements.

I only had my system since July and it’s already malfunctioning.
