Old email access to gamertag

My old email got stolen by my ex-wife, so I closed it...but now I cannot access my 20+ year old gamertag, SMaRtguy381983 with the original email being *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

Was the old email a Microsoft email on your Microsoft account?

If so, then when you closed the Microsoft email you also in turn closed the Xbox account.

The Microsoft email IS the Microsoft account which in turn IS your Xbox account (gamertag) . They are all one in the same.

You need the email to be able to access your old account, with the gamertag you will not have access to anything. So if you don't remember your email, unfortunately you already lost it.

As you mentioned that you suspect that this gamertag is linked to one of your old email accounts. I will suggest login to your old email account and change the email address of that one with your new email address as described here https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/12407/microsoft-account-change-email-phone-number

Or you can delete or change your gamertag by accessing your old email account first.

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. We understand you would like to see the emails attached to your old gamertags, This would not be possible without you first logging into that gamertag since that would be a breach of privacy. You wouldn't want
emails to be that easily accessible to anyone that knows a gamertag.

If you have a console that you are still logged into, you would be able to find your email that way. Do you own an Xbox one or 360 with this old gamertag on it?
