Xbox controller not syncing, turns off when pressing the pair button

I've seen several articles about this, and this is how it all went down:

I never had any problems with my Xbox controllers and never used them on my laptop (Microsoft Surface Studio Laptop), until yesterday. The controller sync'd just find to my windows 11, and other than some intermittent disconnects a few times trying it out on my PC it was working fine. Then. comes the time when I wanted to sync it back up to my Xbox One.

After shutting down my laptop, I tried to sync. it wouldn't sync. I figured perhaps its still connected to my windows 11 system, so I remove the bluetooth device from windows 11.

This is when it really stopped working. When I turn on the controller, I get the slow flash, I turned on my xbox One and pressed the pair button (blinking on the xbox one). then when I press the pair button on my controller, it just shuts off.

I am able connect the controller via usb cable to the Xbox One (and the Laptop). However, after disconnected, I tried turning the controller back on, it won't turn on. I get 1 blink and it turns off. If I press and hold the power button on the controller, it will slow blink for a second, then start fast blinking. But it won't actually turn on.

Other things I have noticed. Is that before I connected via USB, and when I turned the controller back on, my Windows 11 laptop notified me to connect to a device, however, bluetooth didn't show the device connected, nor when adding a device did it show up (mainly because pressing pair, would shut the controller off).

So, everything seemed to go south after syncing to my laptop. and btw.. my other controller works just fine, and I'm not syncing that to my laptop..

Is there any way to "fully reset" the controller?

    :)

Xbox controller not syncing, turns off when pressing the pair button

Hello BishopK71, sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I've done some research on this and may have found a fix for you. Can you please try the following things to try and reset your controller?

    1. Manual Reset - Press and hold the large Xbox button and the Sync button on your controller for at least 30 seconds till you see the Xbox button light start to flash rapidly then let go. This should reset the controller removing any linked connections.

    2. On PC - Connect the controller to your PC via cable and open the Accessories app. Find your controller then click on Reset and then Confirm Reset in the pop up window.

Try connecting to your console after each of these attempts to make sure it works for you.

Do I need a new controller?

Hello ÚÑKÑØẄÑ ©, My name is David. I am an independent advisor, happy to help you today.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue with your Xbox Series X controller. Here are some possible solutions you could try:

Restart your Xbox console: Press and hold the power button on your Xbox console until it turns off. Next, disconnect the Xbox Series X from its power source. Turn off the Xbox controller and remove its batteries. Finally, connect and turn on your Xbox Series X.

Restart the controller: Press and hold the power button on the controller for several seconds until it turns off. Then turn it back on.

Pair the controller with the console again: Press and hold the sync button on the console until the power button flashes. Then, press and hold the sync button on the controller until the lights on the controller flash.

    Best regards.

When I press my buttons on the controller it does not respond How do I fix this?

Try resetting the controller, follow the below steps

    Hard Reset:
A hard reset is more thorough and can help if your controller is not responding as expected.

    Turn off your Xbox console.
If the controller is connected wirelessly, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller for about 10 seconds. The controller will power off.
If the controller is connected via USB, unplug the USB cable.
If your controller has a removable battery pack, take out the batteries.
Wait for a few seconds to ensure any residual power is drained.
Reinsert the batteries or plug in the USB cable.
    Turn on your Xbox console.
Press the Xbox button on the controller to turn it on. The controller should resync with the console.
    Factory Reset (Advanced):
A factory reset of a controller is rarely necessary and should be used as a last resort. This will erase all pairing and customization settings from the controller.

    Turn off your Xbox console.
If the controller is connected wirelessly, press and hold the Sync button on the controller (located next to the USB port).
While holding the Sync button, press and hold the Xbox button on the controller.
Continue holding both buttons for about 10 seconds.
    Release both buttons.
    Turn on your Xbox console.
Press the Xbox button on the controller to turn it on. The controller will be reset to its factory settings and will need to be paired with the console again

Using the Xbox One S controller for both console and phone.

    hi SnackPack83

unfortunately you cannot, the controller is set to ''always'' connect to the last synced device.

you will have to sync your controller every time you want to switch device

and turning off the controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button until it turn off is the intended way of turning it off without turning the Xbox off (when synced to an Xbox), or when synced to another device other then the Xbox

My Bluetooth Headset Doesn't Work Anymore

Just wanted to check. If you turn off all controllers and the headset, then turn the headset on, press the sync button on the console, then the sync button on the headset, what quadrant position does the headset sync to when all controllers are off? If it
syncs up to the top left quadrant, try turning the controller on at the point and see if things start working for you.
