how to get mac address before first update

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you want to know the MAC address of your Xbox without going to settings. You may connect your Xbox to your phones Wi-Fi hotspot and you'll be able to see the MAC address of your Xbox from your phone once it's connected.

You may also type random numbers or letters when adding wireless networks on your Xbox until you see the help page then click on “that didn’t work” and it should show your MAC address.

This may work, you'll need a computer, first get the computer setup for the free wifi, second locate the computers MAC address (google how for your operating system) and once you have that on your XBOX go to Settings>Network Settings>Advanced settings>Alternate
Mac address and input the MAC address you got from your computer.

If you have access to router's setting pages, I'd do a MAC address spoof if your ISP doesn't store MAC addresses. This will force your IP Address to change. Before you do that though, I'd suggest blocking the guy on Xbox LIVE first so he can't join you
again.

There was a 10gb update the other day. You may need to update first. You may also want to try clearing the MAC address on the console as well. To do that just go to your network settings, click advanced network settings, alternate MAC address, select
clear, then reset. Your console will restart at that point.

Thanks for keeping us updated. The steps needed to fix this issue are different for each router, so you may have to refer to your routers owners manual.

Step 1: Get your console's MAC address. Here's how:

1. On Xbox Home, navigate to the left until you reach Pins.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Network.
4. Select Advanced Settings.
5. Write down your Wireless MAC address.

Step 2: Add your console's MAC address to your router's list of authorized MAC addresses.

To change MAC filtering settings on your router, refer to your router documentation or the hardware manufacturer's website. If you change your router's MAC filtering settings, restart your router before trying to connect to Xbox Live.
