xbox series s - unable to set as active network

hi there. having trouble connecting my xbox to wifi again. i'm unable to do wired connection, just putting that out there.

but basically ive had this xbox for a few months now and it used to connect just fine to the wifi, but i had to stop playing the xbox for about a week or so now and i just turned it on today and am getting an error message "unable to set as active network" for any network that i have saved i try to connect to. i've tried connecting to 3 different networks, but none of them work. i try to search for a new network, nothing shows up. i'm connected to this network on my laptop and several other devices, so i know the network works, but the xbox randomly just stopped being able to connect to any wifi network within a week or so of no use.... i haven't dropped it, i haven't even moved it, so i can't imagine there's anything that could've happened to it to cause anything internal to get messed up - what do i do??

ive tried reading the troubleshooting page, i've tried resetting my xbox, i am physically unable to get an ethernet cable connection to my xbox so that test/potential fix is unfortunately not possible for me. i don't know what to do now.

I understand you have tried different networks already, but have you also tried if it connects to your mobile hotspot?

I'm not sure if you've done this but I understand you have already tried resetting your console. But if you could try this, please, let me know how it goes.

Reset network settings:

On the Xbox console, open Settings.

Go to Network > Network Settings.

Select Advanced Settings > Restore Network Settings.

Restart your Xbox.

Changing DNS settings

On the Xbox console, open Settings.

Go to Network > Network Settings > Advanced Settings.

Select DNS Settings, then select Manual.

Enter the following DNS server addresses:

Preferred DNS: 4.2.2.1

Alternate DNS: 4.2.2.2

Save the settings and restart the Xbox.

If other devices can see your wireless network but your Xbox console can’t, there may be something wrong with the internal wireless adapter, and your console may need to be repaired.

as i said above, it is not *seeing* any networks when i tried to connect to a new network so i was unable to attempt to connect to any new ones i didn't already have saved. when i clicked on any saved network, including 2 mobile hot-spots, it said the same thing "unable to set as active network".

It seems that your Xbox Series S will detect nothing after trying to connect to another network. Let's work on this together in finding the best possibl esolution to this issue.

There are a few things you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Make sure your Xbox Series S is within range of your WiFi network and that the network is turned on and broadcasting.

2. Restart your Xbox Series S and try connecting to the network again.

3. Check that your WiFi network is not hidden. If it is, you will need to manually enter the network name and password.

4. Try resetting your network settings on your Xbox Series S. To do this, go to Settings > Network > Network settings > Advanced settings > Alternate MAC address > Clear.
