Xbox elite series 2 core not recognized on PC

i brought a Xbox elite series 2 core 1-2 weeks ago to use for my pc and it was working perfectly fine for those weeks but today during a gaming session it suddenly stopped working and when i plug it in i sometimes get a notification saying usb not recognized but sometimes it just turns on for about 5 seconds then the Xbox button starts blinking. it works perfectly fine if i were to use it on my Xbox one s but i don't play games on Xbox because i prefer pc.

Things I've tried-

Using brand new usb cables, I've tried 3 different ones (one of which came with the controller).

switching what usb port i use.

using device manager to check for any updates for usb & my Xbox control, there were none (this was painful because it would only come up with the controller for 5-10 seconds then would disappear from the devices drop down)

updating my windows version.

using the Xbox accessories app to check for updates (there were none)

restarting my pc and updating it

restarting my Xbox controller manually by holding down the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds (this connects my controller to my pc for a longer period but will disconnect after about 1 minute)

checking if the usb works on other stuff i.e. my phone and headset and an old and damaged Xbox elite series 2 core and it does

Any help would be greatly appreciated I've had this happen to one of my old controller but chalked it up to it being damaged and got a new one I'd rather not have to buy a new controller after only 2 weeks of use.

In the meantime, please try the following additional steps:

Step 1:

- Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.

- Locate the Xbox Controller category (or a similar name).

- Expand the category using the small arrow (>) next to it.

- Right-click the controller and select Uninstall device.

- Click OK, then restart your PC.

- Once restarted, plug or reconnect the controller.

Step 2:

- Open the Xbox Accessories app on your PC.

- Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

- Enter the following command and press Enter:

"xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true "

Follow the on-screen instructions to revert the firmware.

The original XBox Elite controller requires the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 so without that adapter it will not be recognized properly by Windows. The newer, Elite Series 2 can connect to a Windows 10 PC without the need of an adapter.

I have the very same issue with my Xbox Elite Controller Series 2. Very annoying indeed.

How can the Xbox firmware not be recognized by the PC software? Huge oversight by Microsoft...

Did you find a solution to this problem? I updated my Elite series 2 yesterday, and now I have the exact same problem. Elite series 2 is recognized as a regular xbox controller and does connect via bluetooth, but doesnt work. Connected via USB-c the XBOX accessories app doesnt even recognize it...

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but that didnt help.

There was a new update released, can you try updating your Elite Series 2 controller again?

I also have the Elite Series 2 controller and I do not run into these issues when using it with the PC.
