Help with this gamertag issue cause support can’t.

Weird question but. I have been struggling for an answer from anyone in support as well. Seems I’ve came across a unicorn and no one can answer it. I found a gamertag I like I searched it up on the find users and it doesn’t exist, I double checked and went to xbox360 and it doesn’t exist I then proceeded the xbox360 private party invite to that gamertag and it doesn’t exist that way either. So I proceeded to go make the gamertag my new gamertag. I Put it in and then Xbox says “this gamer tag is taken” then proceeds to put the numbers next to the name. I’m so confused on how a gamertag is currently taken but theirs no account connected to it on Xbox live/xbox it’s self. And support has been 0 help and just wondering some input from you guys.

The system doesn't see things like spaces or capitalization as making a gamertag unique. So while you may look up "gamertag" and it doesn't show, it could be in use as "Gamer tag".

For cases like this, you may need to try again change your gamertag by going to Customize Profile (xbox.com) however, if the issue still persist we highly suggest contacting Live Support Contact us | Xbox Support so they can help you further in changing your gamertag.

I just spent $10 to change my gamertag, so I’m not going to change it again, and it’s a 15 digit so I can’t even do it on Xbox.com, I need an Xbox 360.

You need to contact EA support to help you unlink your xbox account from EA account.

However keep in mind that if you unlink an Xbox gamertag from your EA Account, you can’t link a different Xbox gamertag to it in the future.
