Nintendo switch operates on its own store, that Microsoft does not have access to, if you’re thinking about play anywhere, no Minecraft games are play anywhere, and require a separate purchase on each platform. Play anywhere only works between Windows store and Xbox, no other platforms on titles that have it enabled.

If you are attempting to connect your switch to your Microsoft account, all you have to do is sign in in the game to your Microsoft account.

Or if you switched your gamertag to a whole new Microsoft account then your currency would not switch over to the new Microsoft account either. Really any kind of switching you do it states that any currency you have does not go with your gamertag.

Here are the complete steps to enable him to complete a purchase under his account.

Sign in to the Microsoft Family Safety site with your account please use the organizer's account.

Select the member (your son's account )whose account you want to manage.

Go to More options > Spending.

Toggle the switch under Credit cards to Require approval for every purchase.

Toggle the switch for Spending notifications if you want to be notified whenever he makes a purchase.

Please switch this off so that he can complete a purchase.

And right after the purchase is complete you can turn this ON so that you will be notified if he tries to complete a next purchase and to prevent unauthorized purchases too.

You could try logging in with your account first, then switch accounts to your son's leaving yours logged in, and then try accessing the dlc content.
