My Xbox gamertag was changed with the recent update, and I now have to pay to change it.

After updating my Xbox, my gamertag was changed. I went to change it back?, and was prompted that my gamertag couldn’t be used because of “gayson.” I attempted to use a different gamertag, but was asked to pay to confirm the change.

Microsoft changed it, and because their terms only allow for one free change, I now have to pay to change 12 characters I never changed. Why would they do this, and not allow me to pick which gamertag I wanted? What can I do here?

A gamertag will only be changed if it violates the code of conduct. Visit your enforcement history and you can submit a case review. You can only change your gamertag if your appeal is accepted; otherwise, you'll need to pay for a change.

Sorry, unfortunately the free gamertag name change was being abused so Microsoft changed it and now you have to pay for every gamertag name change based on posts I've seen in the forums recently.

My gamertag was recently deemed "offensive" . This is fine but xbox should at least give me the chance to change it! They changed my gamertag to Prettybunny and I dont find this funny at all. I refuse to pay $10 to change my name . Please help

You're allowed to change your Xbox gamertag once for free. If you're trying to change your gamertag for a second time, You'll have to pay for the gamertag change.

I changed my gamertag once when I created my Xbox account but then, I decided to change it again and I had to pay around $10 I believe.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. Unfortunately, if you accidentally changed your Xbox Live gamertag recently then you will need to pay the cost of a gamertag change.

There was a big update to how gamertags work not too long ago and a free gamertag change was offered at that time by going to the following link: http://social.xbox.com/changegamertag

Try the link first to see if you can update your gamertag using the new system.
