Cannot Reset Child Account Password.

Hello,

I'm extremely frustrated here by the lack of an incredibly basic feature that Microsoft needs to implement, and that is the ability for a parent account to reset a child's account password. I have two children ages 3 and 5, and I created them Microsoft accounts that are managed in the family safety app by my account. In the family safety webpage and app I can make a number of changes to the children's accounts, on what they can and can't access, personal information such as birthday, name, and address, but I can't reset a password OR delete their accounts for instance. This has become a problem now because randomly today our family Xbox is asking BOTH of them to sign into their accounts again so they can access their dashboards and play games - well they can't log in, so their save game data, and anything I've purchased them digitally are all being held hostage now.

All the above has left me with one course of action, using Microsoft's account recovery form, which is an actual joke and doesn't work. I know this because when I was a teenager and lost access to an account of mine I spent years trying to recover before eventually just giving up due to lack of real support. Now I'm back at the exact same form Microsoft had in place 15 years ago, getting the same boiler plate instant response to the form that the account recovery team (doesn't exist) can't help because of not enough information - which is bull***** because I have everything entered correctly because i can see it in the family app AND I've given them the exact XBOX these accounts have signed in on. I have tried this form 5 times on both accounts today, because Microsoft locks you out after 5 attempts, and now must wait 24 hours to be greeted with the same boilerplate auto-response.

Microsoft is holding the data of two minors, on their server, against their guardian's permission with no way to delete said data. This would not fly with GDPR.

I have filled out said form with all the information I have, which I can verify was correctly entered on their account's creation because I can see it on the family portal - and it is still not enough to recover the account. The fact I cannot get access to a human to talk with about this issue at Microsoft is extremely frustrating. I've already cancelled my Xbox Ultimate plan which had been going for 3+ years over this, and will continue to not spend money in the ecosystem.

You can download the child account using the parental account email and password, but in order to sign in you would need to sign in with the child account info. If you need to reset the password then the parental email is usually the email that the reset
link goes to.

did you get an email stating its complete

if you read the actual migratoon tool no you canot migrate

as you are a child in the eyes of live

if you had promoted the account which you still need the parental password to promote the qccount before migration

then you can migrate

most likely you would get the error this action cannot be done at this time

regardless if you are 18 or not as your account is still a child you cannot do the migration

When accepting the Terms of Use on a child account, the second log-in prompt is expecting the email and password for the attached Parental account. If you enter the child account, it will not give you an error message because technically you're using a
correct email and password, but since the child account cannot grant authorization on behalf of itself, the system loops you back to log in again.
