Xbox one s updating and installing a game at same time

Today at around noon I opened my Xbox and planned to play some Fortnite, booted it up and it said it needed an update, so I updated it, checked back 5 minutes later to make sure it was doing okay and it was on 0.0%, so I try to cancel the update and it says it will cancel update and uninstall, okay so I’ll uninstall and reinstall, no biggie, I click install and boom, installation stopped, so I left it alone, problem for future me.

Skip forward a few hours i am back at home, try again, same issue, i uninstall, reinstall, says it needs an update, i press okay, installation stopped, error 0x87e00031, google it and its a network issue, check my network, check Xbox status, all okay, but my Xbox live isn’t active, so I renew it thinking it will fix it, nope.

I’ve tried clearing cache, I’ve cleared local save games, I’ve unplugged and replugged both my hard drives, made sure I have enough storage, check my network, my system updates, and there’s no issues with network and no updates for my system, I’ve restarted my Xbox about 6 times and it’s not helped, I’ve tried everything every website has suggested on Google and I’m slumped, I have no idea what to do.

This error is normally caused by corrupt data or a malfunctioning storage unit; depending on the cause, you may need to choose a different storage unit or perform a factory reset on your console.

Okay for those of you who are wondering why does it take 13-15 hours sometimes to install a game on the Xbox One

If its taking even hour to install one game from a Blu-ray disc - and assuming your not downloading an update at the same time - it won't be due to the complexity of the compression of the assets on the disc. Basically, anything more than hour
installing purely from a disc indicates a hardware failure.

Typically when you install an Xbox One game for the first time there will also be game update, these updates install at the same time as the disc install.

If for example your connection speed was slow at say 2 Mbit/s and the update was 10 GB, that means that your install time will be approximately 12 hours. It doesn't matter how big the game is on disc. It will take 12 hours to install purely down to the internet
connection speed.

Regardless of the disc, what type of game it is, a typical offline install of an Xbox One game should take no more than 20 minutes.

I always install discs in (go offline) mode the xbox one installs the game and the updates at the same time which makes it slow. If I buy digital I hit the option to install updates later it helps.

Did you install from disk, or was this a digital download? Did you install an update at the same time as the initial game install? Did you install the episodes after the game?

I had troubles with this one originally. I installed from a disk, launched it, closed it out, then downloaded the updates, then downloaded the episodes. Installing from the disk and downloading the updates at the same time broke the install for me.

I have a X, S, and two 1's

They do not update at the same time, Especially Games

Forza 7 on the S and 1's updated then two weeks later the X updated, (probably the 4k content)

For the Xbox's I use all the time, I have them on auto update.
