Windows 11 Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller recognized only as a normal controller via bluetooth

My Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller that I just purchased on 1/29/2025 from Best Buy is not recognized as an Elite controller via Bluetooth. Additionally, when I remap the back paddle buttons to something other than A, B, X, or Y, they no longer function on Bluetooth.

This appears to be a years long problem with the latest post I could find being this one from January 2024:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ntroller/aa211a3c-b99b-479c-8cba-05aad1b1f8d9

This person and several others had a similar problem in 2022:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...wireless/1556e7d6-3e95-409e-8a45-67de692c594e

This person had the same issue in 2021:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...2-issues/c88229db-c246-4841-b057-fb8478eb105d

Clearly, fixing this problem is not a priority for Microsoft.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller is advertised as a BLUETOOTH WIRELESS CONTROLLER compatible with PC. THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING IF THE CONTROLLER ONLY HAS FULL FUNCTIONALITY ON PC VIA A WIRED USB CONNECTION.

If there is not an update that fixes this issue that has been a problem for so many elite series 2 controller users for YEARS, I will be returning this product and seeking an alternate.

    :)

Xbox Elite wireless controller series 2 bluetooth problem!

    Hi,

I try to connect my Xbox Elite wireless controller series 2 via bluetooth on my Ipad Pro 11 inch 2018, but it can't make connection or won't be recognized. The series 2 controller supports bluetooth. I can make connection with the other older version Xbox
    One S wireless controller immediately.

I'd make a phone call with Apple support and they said that maybe the problem could be that the Xbox Elite controller series 2 won't be supported and isn't compatible with Ipad.

I want to know guys if you had the same problem and I want to ask if there will be an update in the future to solve this problem?
At the moment the series 2 elite controller is not compatible with Iphones/Ipads. At the moment the only device that the series 2 controller is available on IOS side is the Mac and even that it's janky. Series 2 controller works fine on Android at the moment.
Sorry if this doesn't help you, I myself is waiting for the Bluetooth proprietary to be added to the IOS list

Elite Controller Series 2 - Windows 11 - Controller won't connect to Bluetooth as Elite Controller

Would someone be able to assist me with my current issue?

I recently bought the series elite 2 controller and I cant seem to connect the controller directly to my pc with the cable to configure the buttons. I am able to connect it via Bluetooth. I have windows 11 and it has been updated to the latest software and I just downloaded the xbox accessories app. When the app is opened it fails to recognize my controller.

    Thank you in advance.

Elite series 2 not working on PC after update.

Did you find a solution to this problem? I updated my Elite series 2 yesterday, and now I have the exact same problem. Elite series 2 is recognized as a regular xbox controller and does connect via bluetooth, but doesnt work. Connected via USB-c the XBOX accessories app doesnt even recognize it...

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but that didnt help.

Windows 11 Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 recognized only as a normal controller via bluetooth

    Hello Evgeni Tsvetanov,

Thank you for getting back with the thread.

As much as we want to help resolve the issue, we have consulted this to our internal support team. We even try to replicate here in our end.

    • When controller is connected to the PC via the cord that comes with the controller it will be recognized within Device Manager as a Xbox one Controller and that is with 6 elite controllers we tested.
    • We were able to connect the controller via Xbox wireless adaptor. Try turning off the internal Wifi on the desktop and then try to connect to that adaptor.
    • Provide us screenshots of the accessories app not recognizing the Elite so we can further investigate.
    • Try other USB port to make sure it may be a USB port issue in your computer.
    • Try resetting the Xbox accessories app. To do so follow the steps below:

Click Start and click Settings. Or press Windows key + I and click on Apps then installed apps.

Scroll down and locate Xbox Accessories app.

Click on the dots to the right and choose Advanced options.

Scroll down and click on Repair and then if still not working, click on Reset.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

    Sincerely,
