My Gamertag isn't matching correctly.

At the time of changing the gamertag, the gamertag was available and still is available, (using Xbox friend Surch). It at the time said it added the numbers just to know system wise who i was not because it was taken. (It made sence because it gave me the same numbers that were apart of the old gamertag). If it was already taken then it would not have shown up as the changed name in game.

Well first no it wouldn't add numbers after

Checking for other versions of the name won't show you what is possible

Only by changing

If you got a hashtag then then it's already taken just not the version you want

Remember the system doesn't see spaces or caps as different

Also it's best to use xbox app search

The find a friend function has to be specific caps and spaces

When you change a name it will tell you what it will look like

Since you already have the name however you will have to change it to something different then back OTHERWISE you will incur another hashtag

HOWEVER since you have a hashtag already it's most likely happen again you will just have to change the spelling not just the caps and spaces

Hmm. Good idea. Is this confirmed to work, and if so, would my old Gamertag become available immediately after changing it? Price isn't really an issue. I'm just being a little OCD and want it to match my name used elsewhere.

When you get the second controller turned on, press the menu key, then have them either log in to their gamertag, or go over to a guest. Then either join an online match as usual, or go into exhibition. Make sure both controllers are synced and work correctly

Like someone else said wait a bit for the server to recognize the names not in use anymore
