To the left of my gamer tag a little square has appeared. What does that mean?

Honestly, I can't determine the exact meaning from your description alone. It would be helpful to know on which screen you see this little square. If you could kindly provide a screenshot, it would be even better.

Also, what are the Level numbers on our Gamer tag screen/icon to the left of our posts mean? How does one raise that level?

Just because the desired tag does not appear as in use in the Xbox system does not mean it is available for your use, as Gamertags are used by other Microsoft systems. If it is tied up, the only way a given account can become
available now is for the gamer who has that tag to change to something else.

I can't access the beta forums either, and after I got on the beta my gamer pic appears as a picture in picture using my gamer pic as a smaller pic in the upper left corner of the square, but it uses someone else's gamerpic as the larger pic

Ive tired that, the shark card does not appear there. only thing that appears there is
