Need help recovering Xbox gamertag of my late uncle.

Lately, I have been trying to recover my late uncle's Xbox Live gamertag. It hasn't been used since 2011. I try entering the email that is most likely associated with it, but it says that account doesn't exist. Does anyone know what I can do in this situation?

The account would be unrecoverable at this point given the amount of time it's been inactive. Or do you mean you want the Gamertag itself to use for your account?

Thanks for the reply. The account was last used 13 years ago. I just want to recover the gamertag.

That being said, I would like to let you know that if more than 2 years already passed since the last time your uncle's account was used, this means that it was likely deleted for inactivity.

This is mentioned because Microsoft changed their account activity policy, and it says, “you must sign in to your Microsoft account at least once in a two-year period to keep your account active. If you don’t sign in during this time, Microsoft will consider your account to be inactive.

Any account that has been locked for more than two years will also be considered “inactive” and will be closed.”

Therefore, this is the reason you're not able to recover the account.

So unfortunately you can't recover an Xbox account purely with the gamertag. Do you know if your uncle has a Microsoft account and potentially used it to create the Xbox account? If so, they may share an email, which would allow you to recover the password.
