How to move a child account? When trying the 1st step (remove) it is denied

    Hi,

I want to move a child from one family group to another. (I messed up, and created a new family group when I added a child.)

My problem is that when I log in with the parent account of the new family group, and for the child account select "Remove from family group" I simply get this message:

"You can't remove **** from the family group"

"Family members under statutory age need an adult's consent to join a family group. Only the adult that granted consent for **** can remove this family member. Ask the family organiser who granted **** consent to remove **** from the family group."

This is not helping me forwards. Clearly I am logged in as the organiser, and as the only adult it could only be that account that was used to grant consent.

I found an answer to the question "How to move child account to new parent account?", in which Sodangidni similarly explains that "...only the account that added the child account can remove it from the family group."

    What might I be overlooking?

    Thanks in advance

    Stig

    :)

How to move child account to new parent account?

Hello, Jessica R. I'm Arturo, and I'll be glad to provide assistance with your inquiry today.

Do you have access to the account you originally used to add your son's account?

I ask this question because only the account that added the child account can remove it from the family group.

So, if you have access to this account, please follow these steps to move the child account:

Step 1. Log in to the account here:
    https://account.microsoft.com/family/home">https://account.microsoft.com/family/home

Step 2. Click on the dots next to the child account name.

Step 3. Click “remove from family group”.

Step 4. Log in to the new parent account one more time here:
    https://account.microsoft.com/family/home

Step 5. Click on “add member” and type the email address of the child account.
As this is a child account, select the role as a “member” of the family.

Step 6. Accept the invitation on the child account, and you should be able to manage the child account permissions.

I hope you find this answer helpful to your inquiry. However, I'll remain attentive to any other one you may have.

    Regards,

    Arturo.

How do I change the parental account?

So if he logs in on his account, he could remove me as a child account? What will happen when I try to log into the child account?

Is there any way I can remove my friends account as the parent account and change the parent account to one that my "parents" made?

    TravisWilliam5,

If you remove a child account and readd them it will not affect their game progress. However, you’re not able to remove a child account to readd it as an adult account. A child account only becomes an adult account when that person reaches legal age.

You can allow certain content on a child’s account by following this link you will find more information on how to grant exceptions to your child’s content limits. LINK: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/security/grant-exception-child-content-limits

Unable to accept new terms for my daughters account?

I was able to get this to work, but I'm not exactly sure how (I did a bunch of steps and it eventually worked)... The problem seems to be that when you log in as the parent and are redirected to the TOU, xbox.com still has the child account logged in, not
the parent (even though the parent just logged in).

    Try this.

    1) Log in to your child's account on xbox.com

    2) when the accept TOU page comes up, copy that URL to the clip board

Here's where I'm not sure what option worked for me, so try both of these:

    3) log out of the child's account (or start an in-private browser session)

    4) paste the URL from step 2

    5) log in as parent when prompted

    6) accept TOU, sign out

Try signing back in as the child (might need to wait a few minutes)

If that doesn't work... try again and when you get to the page for pasting the URL, after you paste it remove all the text after the ? before navigating to the page, e.g.

    live.xbox.com/.../NewTermsOfUse

Login in as parent and accept.

One of those two got it working for me, but not sure which, I just kept trying.
