How do I ensure ‘ask to buy’ settings save?

Please try it via the website to make sure it won't reactivate it.

I have already changed the ask to buy to off but it simply turns itself back to on.

I have tried to find on the website and am going around in circles. I can’t see the option.

That's a security measure from the Parental Controls.

You can adjust it's setting by following these steps:

Sign in to the Microsoft Family Safety site with the Family Organizer account.

Under the member whose account you want to manage, select More options > Spending.

On this page, you can select the toggle switch to Off under Credit cards for Require approval for every purchase.
