    I personally have had the same 4 TB HD connected to my Xbox One going on almost 4 years now with the instant on feature on and have had no problems with my HD

    I find the new UI is a lot faster and less clunky than the previous dashboard.

    Is your console always on instant on mode? If so swap it to power saver and turn it off every now and again, then switch it back to instant on. Is the connection to xbox live wireless? If so try a Ethernet connection. It's a few things you could try.
