Njal the Blue already correctly explained how you can change your Gamertag name and Avatar on the Xbox One console.

On a Windows 10 PC you can do the same by downloading the free Avatar App. Simply open the Windows 10 Start menu, and type "Xbox Avatar", and the search results should show the app directly, or a link that opens the App Store to get the free App.

If you actually want to change your "Real Life" name that is displayed when you share your actual name on Xbox, you can change your name on
https://account.microsoft.com and changing your personal profile information.

You can't. The real name is taken from the Microsoft account, so changing that would change it on any service that uses the Microsoft account.

The most apparent solution to this problem is to make a new gamer profile. Sadly, the real name is associated with the real name of the Microsoft account the gamer profile is set up with. You can choose to stop sharing your real name as a temporary fix by
following these steps:

On the Xbox App:

• Press the Xbox button to open the menu.
• Select your gamer profile from the menu.
• Select name sharing settings.
• Scroll down until you see a button that says sharing.
• Tap the button so the dot is on the left, and it says
  not sharing.

You may also choose to share your real name with certain accounts on the same page.

The changes should reflect immediately. Kindly remove and re-add your account.

REMOVE ACCOUNT​​​

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide. ​​​

2. Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts. ​​​

3. Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm. ​​​

4. When you're finished, select Close. ​​​

POWERCYCLE CONSOLE​​​

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off. ​​​
