Xbox Series X won't display 4k after latest console update

So as the title says, my xbox won't display 4k after the latest console update. This is why I always avoid updating but this would keep me off-line. Can I revert the update somehow? Thanks.

    :)

Xbox Series X won't display 4k after latest console update

    Hi smcutajar,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are having trouble on can't enable 4k, and I understand your confusion. Sorry to say that there is currently no way to roll back. But you can try the following steps:

    • Unplug the HDMI cable and then plug it back in.
    • Perform a power cycle
    1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button 🎮 on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
    2. Unplug the console’s power cable and wait for at least 10 seconds (this step resets the power supply).
    3. Plug the console power cable back in and press the Xbox button 🎮 on your console to turn it on.
    • Reset you Xbox
    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.
    3. Choose Reset console > Reset and keep my games & apps

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,

While 4K 120Hz may sound nice, you'll not see it in games.

To get the true benefit of a high refresh display is to actually run the games at the same frame rate as the the refresh rate. The Series X maybe a powerful console, but won't play the latest games @4K 120.

    Series S/X

    Hi,

The Series X supports 1080P resolution in the settings same as Xbox One and One X. Games on Series X will still render in 4K, but will downscale to whatever display you have. There won't be any loss in quality at all.

Recommendations for a PC with optimal performance for FIFA 23 on Xbox One S and Xbox Series S/X

You've stated twice in your post about a PC. What exactly is it you're looking for? A PC or a Monitor?

If it's just a monitor you're after, don't make the mistake of buying 'any monitor' that fits your budget and hope that it works, because as SwordofWhedon has already stated, many monitors have compatibility issues with consoles. Just because a display says it does 144Hz, doesn't mean you'll get 120Hz on the Xbox. Many monitors, especially older models, have their own custom timings that don't conform to the VESA standard that the Xbox expects.

Series S is largely a 1080P console with some games running at 1440P. If you connect a Series S to a 4K display it won't look great. Series X looks good on both 1080P and 4K displays.

Why does my x box series s look terrible in game?

The Series S is the weaker console of the next-gen Xbox consoles. While you can set it to 4K, this won't apply to games. The console will merely run these games between 1440 or 1080P and then upscale them. It's not a 4K console.

In short, video from YouTube and Netflix will be in 4K, games won't.

As the game rendering resolutions are lower, they won't look great when blown up to a 4K display, and the larger the 4K display, the worse the games will look. A Series S looks quite decent and sharp on 27" 1080P display, but quite pixelated and soft on a large 55" TV.

Many Xbox One games are sub 1080P, and these will look even worse on a large screen TV.
