Xbox fan is buzzing and squeaking. Will it mess up the Xbox if you put electronic oil on...

The squeak is something we all end up having. I don't have a single controller that doesn't have a squeak or weirdness in a trigger/button/stick. Alcohol swabs or a little bit of lithium grease/wd40/sewing machine oil helps as well.

From my experiences with PC building and Xbox One knowledge, I can conclude that this is not a problem. The liquid you are seeing is Fan Lubricant. Fans leaking oil Lubricant are not rare most computers at some point have fans leaking Lubricant. During the
manufacturing of computer fans, the bearing (the center there the motor is) is applied with oil Lubricant. Some fan manufactures put too much Lubricant resulting in some leaking after time.

Here is what happened: Oil Lubricant was released from the Xbox One's fan, since the Xbox One's fan blows out air instead of blow in, the oil from the bearing's will be blown out to the top of the Xbox One causing what you currently see on your Xbox One.

Don't worry, this might sound all scary, but don't fear. Fan Lubricant is non conductive, it will not harm your Xbox One's motherboard or any internal components.

Yeah I hear you. It's not right having to put up with the annoying sound of a fan whirring constantly but that's not to say it's going to fail. I have a couple of noisy fans in my PC, one of which is nearly 5 years old and is still going strong. Granted,
some fans do have inherent problems with bearings/coils and will unfortunately grind to a stop one day but that's just the risk we all take with electronics.

With all that said though, and this has just come to me, high pitched squeaking noises sometimes come from HDD's. I personally can't here these noises as I have an inner ear condition called tinnitus, but if that's what some of you are hearing it could be
the HDD's making the noise and not the fan. If that's the case then it's a game changer because through experience HDD's making high pitched squeaking noises are already on their way out and you'll need to get it serviced sharpish.

What do you mean by "buzzing sound"?

Is it a buzzing noise coming from your laptop's cooling fans (or other components)? Or is it a buzzing noise from the Xbox gameplay stream?

Usually the fan will kick up in speed when you're playing a game. I have a feeling that the "buzzing" you describe could be something vibrating inside or around the Xbox when the fan hits a high enough speed.

Try repositioning your console, remove any loose objects sitting near it, and if it's an Xbox One S, change the orientation (horizontal/vertical). See if that helps with the buzzing.
