i have an x box one s, and when powered off it is making an electrical ticking noise. i have checked it is in energy saving mode. but still making the noise. it only goes away if unplugged.

Hi there Philip, my name is Gerardo, and I'm an Xbox player, just like you. I'll be happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Personally, I have an Xbox console, and when it's turned off (both in energy-saving mode and suspension mode), it doesn't make any noise like the one you describe. If it's a noise that can be heard at a considerable distance from the console and ends up being annoying, then in that case, it will be necessary for you to send your console to a trusted technician in your local area for a proper inspection and repair.

It's important to note that Xbox no longer officially repairs Xbox One consoles and only provides repair services for Xbox Series X|S consoles, as you can confirm on the following link under the "Out-of-warranty service costs" dropdown:

    https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/warranty-service/getting-your-product-serviced

As you can see, only Xbox Series X|S consoles are listed there, not Xbox One consoles.

Please keep in mind that in this public forum, we are just fellow players like you, trying to help other players with our best intentions.

I appreciate your understanding and if you have further questions please let me know.

    Kind regards,
    Gerardo.

Brand new Xbox one S weird ticking noise when fully powered off but still plugged in to socket

Hello, my new xbox (first time plugged in) is giving weird ticking noise when powered off (power-saving mode). It gives noise when plugged in to mains socket and extension sockets. My socket is giving perfect multi-meter readings but still xbox seems like
its having an issue with power.
Did you get any resolution with this? I have a 2-year-old One S, have only used it for about 20 hours since I bought it, and it has the quick ticking noise when off, too. I definitely have it in power-saving mode, I've tried toggling it into standby mode
and back to power-saving mode, I completely shut it down, and it still ticks the whole time it's supposedly off. I've tried with a surge protector and directly into the wall, made sure the plugs were firmly seated, etc. Unfortunately, I'm out of warranty,
despite barely using it. The only way to stop the ticking is to unplug the power cord.

Weird Noise coming from Power Brick

@Mister Urkel - The noise my PSU makes is caused by the fan. Either the bearing is a bit dodgy, the fan is a little out of alignment, or there's something touching the blades, but it makes a really fast ticking noise. The noise is very quiet - I can't hear
it when I'm gaming - but the fan runs 24/7 when the Xbox One is set to sleep mode, so when I'm not gaming and I'm sitting in the room quietly, I can hear "tick, tick, tick, tick". It's annoying to the point where I disabled the sleep mode so that the PSU turns
off when the console is off, but that gimps some of the Xbox One's features. I have tried plugging the PSU directly into a wall socket and plugging it into a power strip, but it's the same either way.

To be honest, it was exactly the same with the Xbox 360 S power supplies. When that revision of the console came out, tons of people said "the console is really quiet, but the fan in the PSU is noisy!" and my own 360 S PSU is quite noisy, but at least with
that, when the 360 S is turned off, the PSU fan goes off as well.

Personally, I don't consider these PSUs to be good quality, but a good quality PSU costs quite a lot of money, so I can see why they are the way they are, but it's a shame when the console itself is so quiet. I'm a bit baffled why the PSU couldn't be inside
the case this time, given the relatively low power draw of the console. A large TV will consume about the same Wattage as the Xbox One under load, yet the power board in TVs is small and quiet and inside a thin case too.

Weird Noise coming from Power Brick

My issue is that the fan ticks. The console is set up in a bedroom. When everything is turned off (or on standby), I hear this fast "tick, tick, tick" from the Xbox One PSU. I specifically built my PC to be as close to silent as I could make it, so I can
even hear the Xbox One PSU ticking over the sound of my PC when that's turned on. I'm not saying that the noise is "loud", because it's not. But any noise that can clearly and constantly be heard when a product is supposedly turned off is not good, especially
    an annoying ticking sound.

Xbox one s making ticking noise when off

Ok so the sizzle noise coming from the adapter on the back of the console is nothing to worry about? Its very quiet and i can only notice the sizzle when i put my ear up to the back of the console were the power cord goes in. Also is the occasional zap
or chirp normal? Please note that i am using an xbox one s 1tb console. As i said this console took me a long time to save up for and the games work fine its just these noises that worry me. And im worried if i exchange it (which i cant at the moment because
its not in stock) im afraid i will get one with a worse problem and loose my data. Also the only noise i hear when its off is the ticking the other noises like the occasional quiet zap and the sizzle from the adapter happens when the console is on.
