I cant open anything on my xbox if I click a it notices it but it dose nothing.

Hey recently my Xbox has been playing up.

With my issue I press a on the controller to select stuff it notices but doesn’t do anything. I tried factory reseting, re syncing controller, hold the off button for 10 seconds unplug the Xbox and leave it for a couple mins and it still has the issue

Did you try to clear the cache?

For an Xbox One stays pressed the ignition button on the front of your console for 10 seconds, wait 30 sec, restart the console.

I had a hard drive plugged in but as soon as I unplugged it the controller worked. What causes the hard drive to go corrupt?

If the powercycle as suggested above do not work then you may need to try a factory reset. There's an option to keep installed games and apps and your saves will be safe on the Cloud

Seems like you have performed all the necessary steps. When you reset the console did you choose remove everything?

Also, do you have an external hard drive plugged into your console? A corrupted hard drive may cause these issues as well.
